Winter loosens its grip: Hungary to see spring-like temperatures this weekend!

After weeks of biting cold and hard frosts, Hungary is finally set for a noticeable warm-up. Meteorologists say a strong warm front will arrive by the weekend, pushing daytime temperatures well above freezing in many areas — although the milder air will also bring rain and a risk of icy conditions.

From deep freeze to gradual thaw

According to ATV’s article, the prolonged cold spell that has dominated recent weeks is drawing to a close. While much of the country is still experiencing wintry conditions, forecasts indicate that temperatures will begin to rise steadily from Friday, with a marked change expected over the weekend.

Although sunshine will be limited at times due to extensive cloud cover, the incoming warm front will significantly reduce overnight frosts and lift daytime highs closer to early spring levels.

Friday: clouds, fog and a risk of freezing rain

According to HungaroMet, Friday is expected to be mostly overcast across Hungary, with occasional breaks in the cloud cover. In several areas, especially in Transdanubia, the air may become humid, and fog could form, in some places lingering for longer periods.

Light precipitation is possible in scattered areas. In the northeast, weak snowfall may still occur, while moving southeast, the likelihood of freezing rain increases. In regions where temperatures climb above freezing, light rain will be more common. Winds will generally remain light to moderate from an easterly direction.

Daytime temperatures on Friday will mostly range between -2°C and +2°C, though slightly higher values are possible in southeastern parts of the country.

Saturday: milder air arrives, but caution needed

By Saturday, the warm front will be more firmly in place. Skies will remain mostly cloudy or overcast, and precipitation will become more widespread. Rain is expected in many areas, with freezing rain still possible in some regions, particularly during the morning and evening hours.
