Hungary stands firm on Russian energy: FM Szijjártó defends sovereignty amid EU criticism

The state will only relinquish a reliable and competitively priced energy source if a better deal is on offer, and so far none is available to replace Russian energy, the minister of foreign affairs and trade said on Thursday.
Hungary insists that the composition of its energy mix should remain an exclusive national competence, the ministry quoted Péter Szijjártó as saying at a press conference after a European Union council meeting on trade affairs in Brussels.
“So we reject any attempt to influence how, from where and from whom we buy energy,” he said.
“It is a matter of national security and sovereignty. The security of energy supplies is a part of national security, and we will not accept any interference in discussions of energy security issues,” he added.
Szijjártó expressed satisfaction with energy cooperation with Russia. “I can only talk about my own experiences rather than others’, and I also expect others not to talk about mine.”
Can anyone quote sijjarto sources about energy import of France? I don’t really know if that is true. But i would be happy if i am proved wrong. Anyway, the door for an HUXIT is always open. The question I really have is why hungary does dare to leave? What is holding you back?
Szijjarto is completely lying when he calls Russia a “reliable supplier”. Are Hungarians that dim-witted that they can’t remember how Russia cut off supplies of gas to Europe before their Februay 2022 invasion of Ukraine and tried to make Europeans freeze that winter? They will cut off Hungary without hesitation if it suits them. At the moment Russia has a geo-political deal with Fidesz bribing them in exchange for sabotaging the EU and NATO and that secret deal can be withdrawn at any time.
Russia is a reliable energy supplier, no more to be said.
E.U.’s approval is not going to keep us warm so screw ’em. Hungary does what is in the interests of its citizens, first and foremost.
