Shocking! Number of murder cases in Hungary revealed
At the moment, there is no official data about the number of crimes and murders happening in Hungary as the international statistics office, Eurostat, and the Hungarian authorities use different calculations. Nevertheless, Hungarians could experience in the last few months that the number of crimes, especially murder and physical abuse, has increased.

Qubit reported that it is also questionable whether preparations, attempts, and actual murders are included or not in the statistics, and also their exact date: when the murder happened or when it was discovered and put under investigation by authorities. It turned out that between 2009 and 2019, the number of murders rapidly decreased in Budapest. But what is the situation between the 31st of January and 31st of May, 2020?
Due to the coronavirus epidemic and the three-month-long lockdown, the number of violent cases within families and murders has increased not just in Hungary but all across the world, as international statistics offices reported.
In 2011, a record number of 164 murder cases happened in Hungary, and 35 out of the total happened in Budapest. In January 2020, this number decreased. The number between March and May, though, is shocking. Over these three months, 56 Hungarians were murdered, which is a 75% increase from 2019’s March-May period. Generally, Hungarian authorities reported that murder cases are more frequent during the winter months and not in the spring season.Â
Out of nineteen cases, nine happened within families, in five cases, authorities continue the investigation, and in another five cases, no family connection was between the murderer and the victim. This means that the lockdown and social distancing are the main factors of the increasing violence and crime rate in Hungary, in addition to mental diseases in most of the cases.Â

The arriving policemen arrested the local murderer at the scene. The on-site investigation and criminal proceedings started immediately. The victims were two men; one was 65 years old, and the other was 49. According to one of their neighbours, they moved to the town a few years ago.
