Meteorologists uncover how long Siberia’s chill grips Hungary

The cold, wintry, Siberia-like conditions persist into next week. Early on, expect sunny spells alongside persistently overcast and foggy patches—especially across the Great Plain—while clear nights could plunge temperatures to a biting -21°C. Daytime maxima will linger below freezing over much of the country. However, the change is also on the horizon.

Come midweek, skies turn mostly cloudy, but the frost eases its grip, with mixed precipitation (think snow flurries or sleet) in the mix, according to the HungaroMet Nonprofit Ltd forecast released to the Hungarian News Agency on Sunday.

Monday
Hoar frost and low cloud should thin out by midday, boosting visibility—though stubborn overcast lingers along a northwest-southeast line, particularly in the central Great Plain. Clear skies are most likely across the northeast and north. Light snow showers or freezing drizzle might tease foggy spots. East to southeast winds stay mostly light or moderate, perhaps picking up briefly around Sopron. Highs: -8°C to 0°C.
