Significant tourism development project launched at Balaton

After nearly two years of planning and designing, one of the most significant tourism investment projects of Balaton could be finally implemented in Balatonvilágos.

According to the information of Sonline, the investment includes a high-end hotel, the renewal of the harbour and the rehabilitation of the nearby beach area.

The news portal also added that the reconstruction of the main square, the establishment of a holiday residence and a living quarters area as well as a new multifunctional cultural centre is also included in the larger scope of the project.

As Travelo have previously written at the end of December, the project started with the demolition of the iconic Club Aliga restaurant and retro café. The portal wrote that the locals had many sweet memories connected to the place and they hope that the beach-goers will still have access to the free beach after the project is finished.

Since the project has a considerably great potential impact on the environment, there will be an online public hearing by the local government to address the issues and present the studies related to the project, Travelo reported.

Index reported that, although there were no environmental reasons why the project could not be implemented, the construction will have a major effect on the area, therefore, a habitat impact assessment is required.

The project, named Aliga Liget was published by the government office, so the details of the development are available online.

  • a public area
  • a 122-room hotel including 40 small apartment houses
  • a parking lot
  • beach service buildings
  • the renovated sailboat harbour

The detailed development plans are available HERE for anyone who is interested, but the included concept arts make it evident that the design of the project was made by the Hungarian LIMA Design Kft..

Further developments include processes such as the construction of an approximately 400-seat open-air cultural event venue, the development of promenades and footpaths as well as the implementation of a 10,000 m2 landscape architecture design, Sonline wrote.
