‘Soros network’ relocating headquarters from Washington to Brussels, the Orbán cabinet believes

Change language:

The “Soros network” is relocating its headquarters from Washington to Brussels, the prime minister’s political director said on Facebook on Saturday, adding the Patriots for Europe grouping was ready to “repel the Soros network at the European level”, and the Hungarian government would “push them out of Hungary”.

Balázs Orbán said it was “hard to keep up” with the pace at which US President Donald Trump was “winding up the Washington-based international liberal network” since assuming office. “Trump immediately turned off the money taps, and liberal organisations worldwide have been left without their incoming dollars,” he said.

Orbán said it had come to light that the previous Democratic US administration had been using American aid agency USAID to “undermine democratically-elected governments” and “shape societies to its own taste by spreading liberal-progressive ideologies”.

He said American taxpayer money was being used “to carry out the goals of the Soros network”. He cited the example of the East-West Management Institute, which, he said, had received more than 260 million US dollars from USAID to spend on carrying out left-wing political goals in Serbia, Georgia, Albania and Uganda.

Orbán said the Soros network had not been eliminated with the Democrats’ election loss in the US, and was still expanding. He cited Alex Soros, the chair of the Open Society Foundations, as telling the Financial Times in an interview that the network had given some 85 million dollars to Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris’s campaign and that he had given 32 billion dollars to his foundation.

  1. Orbán Balázs should be well pleased that, with the ham-fisted “… turning off the money taps, and liberal organizations worldwide have been left without their incoming dollars”, many countries, including those in Sub-Saharan Africa (which our Politicians like to bang on about – “Important!”) have been thrown into disarray.

Just very quickly – American aid accounts for 15 percent of economic output in South Sudan, 6 percent in Somalia and 4 percent in the Central African Republic. Since the USAID websites are all down – some context:

The vacuum this leaves is tremendous and there will be “undesired effects”, let´s say. Not limited to a lot of human misery, suffering, and death. Good reason to trek North – at least, that´s what I would do.

  2. Soros headquarters can relocate anywhere as long as they stay out of Hungary. The reason the Soros headquarters is relocating is because President Trump won, and he will not tolerate them in the country. Soros group failed in their endeavors.

    • President Trump is rather intolerant of a lot of institutions, people, the law… And vindictive, as well as a bit of a bully. And I don´t think Hungary is high on their list – our Politicians actually have that effect on certain companies and institutions.

  3. President Trump was elected to improve the lives of “American People” only. Not Hungary or any other country should be first on his agenda. Norbert, all reasonable people understand that.
