Substantial success: Budapest wins European Mobility Week Award
Budapest has won the European Commission’s European Mobility Week Award for the programmes and developments implemented for last year’s Mobility Week, the municipality said on Friday.
According to Impress Magazine, between September 16 and 22 last year, Budapest organised a car-free weekend, Mayor Gergely Karácsony presented plans for the green reconstruction of the Danube bank on the Pest side, and the city organised several events promoting biker- and pedestrian-friendly developments, it said in a statement.

At the award ceremony in Brussels on Thursday night, Deputy Mayor Kata Tüttő said that despite the difficulties brought on by the energy crisis, Budapest successfully kept public transport at a high standard, and focused on energy effectiveness and on maintaining the security of public services. Recently disbursed EU funding will be largely ploughed into new tram lines and other vehicles, she added.
