Success! Hungarian nominee among this year’s FIFA Puskás Award – VIDEO
The FIFA Puskás Award has been established in order to award the player, female or male, judged to have scored the most aesthetically significant, or “most beautiful”, the goal of the calendar year. For the first time in the history of this prestigious award, a Hungarian football player has been nominated.
Index reported that the voting for the most beautiful goal of the year opens on Monday featuring Hungarian football player, Dániel Zsóri’s goal from February. The eighteen-year-old player of DVSC scored the incredible goal on February 16 when playing against Ferencváros in Hungary.
In the 81st minute he stood up from the bench to join his first NB I game in his life. In the 93rd minute from 15 metres from the goal, he scored with an incredible technique.
The nominees of 2019 have been announced on FIFA’s official website including Matheus Cunha (RB Leipzig), Juan Fernando Quintero (River Plate), Zlatan Ibrahimovic (Los Angeles Galaxy), Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona), Fabio Quagliarella (Sampdoria), and Andros Townsend (Crystal Palace).
Three women player are also in the competition for the most beautiful goal. Ajara Nchout (Valerenga), Amy Rodriguez (Utah Royals), and Billie Simpson (Cliftonville Ladies).
The professional jury chose the shots between 16 July 2018 (the second day of the FIFA World Championship in Russia) and 19 July 2019. Voting is open until September 1, and the winner will receive the award twenty-two days later in Milan. This is the 11th time the ceremony will be held and the award will be given to somebody. The first award was given to Christiano Ronaldo who accepted it from the widow of the legendary Hungarian football player Ferenc Puskás. Since the first award, many excellent players earned to accept this legendary award.
