Szazadveg denies allegation it looked at classified state docs

Budapest, November 4 (MTI) – The think-tank Szazadveg has said reports that it had access to state classified documents are unfounded.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Szazadveg School of Politics Foundation said that it firmly rejected all the allegations, which it called “malevolent lies”.

The press reports are grossly ill-informed and contain numerous disingenuous claims, the statement said, adding that the foundation abided by all regulations.

The chairman of parliament’s national security committee, Socialist lawmaker Zsolt Molnar, has put the case of Szazadveg, which is accused of handling state secrets, on the agenda of the committee’s next meeting.

Molnar said in a statement that the committee seeks a briefing concerning who among the think-tank’s staff had access to which official documents and on what basis.

The Hungarian Liberal Party called for the committee to be convened to examine allegations that Szazadveg had seen classified state documents.

In a written answer to a parliamentary question, the minister of interior, Sandor Pinter, said staff of the Szazadveg School of Politics had not received certification to handle state secrets in the period before 2013.
