Hungarian FM Szijjártó discusses Gaza situation with Israeli counterpart

Change language:
Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó discussed the situation in the Middle East with Gideon Saar, his Israeli counterpart, on Monday.
In addition to this week’s hopefully decisive summit on the war in Ukraine in Alaska, the leading topic in international politics is the expected developments in Gaza, Szijjártó said on Facebook after his phone call with Saar.
Szijjártó said he and Saar were in agreement on the need to improve access to humanitarian aid as well as the need for Hamas to immediately release all of its hostages, including the last Hungarian hostage. They were also in agreement on the need to restore the local population’s right to security without the threat of terrorist attacks and airstrikes, and that Hamas must not have any function in the Middle East in the future, he said.

French President Macron calls Israeli expansion plan in Gaza ‘disaster of unprecedented gravity’
French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday denounced Israel’s announcement of the expansion of its military operations in Gaza City and the Mawasi camps, calling it “a predicted disaster of unprecedented gravity.”
“The Israeli Cabinet’s announcement of an expansion of its operations in Gaza City and the Mawasi camps and a reoccupation by Israel constitutes a disaster of unprecedented gravity and a headlong rush into permanent war,” Macron told French news broadcaster BFMTV. “Israeli hostages and the people of Gaza will continue to be the first victims of this strategy,” he added.
