It is almost certain you wrongly charged your phone

According to hvg.hu, your smartphone lasts for a short time not just because there is not a big enough battery in it. Behind the phenomenon is partly that almost everyone incorrectly charges it.

Don’t charge it fully

The website Battery University, which is owned by a battery company, warns that lithium-ion batteries do not require a full charge – neither at the first charge before the first power-up, nor after that. Indeed you do the right thing, if you always just charge somewhat, but not until 100%

Don’t leave charging at night (either)

The previous advise allows you should not let the battery on the charger for a longer period of time: however, if it is kept plugged into, there will be always charged, but the more times the battery is fully charged, the less it holds on in the long run.

The graphic shows that the capacity (green line) reduces almost to zero even after 200 charges, while the capacity of a battery, which is not fully-charged, reduces only by about 20% even after 400 charges. The point is:  do not leave it unattended charging for too long: 80-90% charge will be plenty enough, hvg.hu said.

Charge often

Instead of a few large bursts, it is much better if you charge it only partially – but you should do it whenever you can. The best is, if you charge it a little at 80-90% – of course, it is just the ideal case which is difficult to implement in everyday use. But you can strive for it.

Don’t charge it in very cold or hot weather

The Battery University advises the ideal charging temperature is between 10°C and 30°C. Although probably few people charge their phones under 10°C, but it can occur for example at the garage in winter. In the summer, the charging phone can remain in a place higher than 30°C (for example, in a car). It’s also not good for the battery.

Forget the charger when it makes the phone hot

It is natural that the device is a little warmer while charging. But if you feel it very warm, do not use the charger anymore.

New Budapest map application is world leader

Budapest barrier-free mobile map is ready. The world novelty application  developed by the Hungarian startup Route4U was presented at a press conference in Budapest on Thursday. At the event, several mixed, wheelchair-walking groups set off to try out the application in practice, szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu said.

Peter Bodo, founder of Route4U, the application developer said: the app makes easier the movement of the people in wheelchairs, which shows the accessibility of locations with color schemes, along with the leading ways, sidewalks and crosswalks. The data are collected partially by the users and the smart phones’ built-in sensors – accelerometer, tilt-sensor – automatically – he said.

The program is available only in Hungarian so far, but by the end of the year, the English, German, Dutch and Spanish-language versions will be available, and in addition for Android, for iPhones as well. Over 120 users have tested the app so far, the range of users is growing. Besides other cities of the country, there are people who interested in it from Vienna, Switzerland and Canada as well, szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu said.

The development is a global novelty because – although there have already been applications which showed a specific area’s accessibility – it is the first one where the map is also expanding by recording the automatically-measurable data. By the increase of users’ number, it is not impossible the complete mapping of the country or even Europe. Where there is a complete, mapped network, the decision makers of the local government can use it, they have already contacted BKK (Budapest Transport Center).

According to Kinga Marton Mathe, national director of Hungarian Tourism Zrt., the development can contribute to the revitalizing of accessible tourism too.

Phone application for refugees to find their way around in Hungary

According to 444.hu, when the Hungarian authorities change in every day or even every hour that people can get on the trains to Austria or not, you can imagine how much a refugee can understand from this chaos, who speaks less English than the policeman.

The refugees become more and more tense when they understand even less than the authorities why they have to leave the train at Bicske, once they have a valid ticket.

Nina wanted to solve such situation, when she approached a couple of her friends to develop an application for Migration Aid, through which refugees can get information in an intelligible form about what to do when they arrived in Hungary.

InfoAid is an app that allows the users to get information from Migration Aid group in multiple languages about that what kind of rules apply to them, where they can get care and what happens in traffic.

For example, if Austria does not accept trains from Hungary again, then this information will get to the refugees go to the west the last.

According to the spokesperson of Migration Aid, the refugees should also know that tap water is drinkable in Hungary, because it is not basic for everyone, but many people do not know where to buy train tickets, so it often happens they get counterfeits.

According to Zsuzsanna Zsohar, InfoAid would be a huge help for them, because refugees would know where they can get medical care, but they can also draw their attention to things like to collect garbage, because local people do not like when the rubbish left behind them.

The refugees generally do not have reliable information on where and why they have to register and what it exactly means. Through the application it can be explained that they should not climb over the fence, they should cross the border in the designated points.

We also like to inform them what kind of rules apply to them and what awaits them after September 15, when the restrictions come into effect, which are for the managing of the refugee crisis, 444.hu said.

The developers aim the refugees get the message in a language they understand, so besides English, they can choose Arab, Pastu, Farsi, Urdu and Greek language as well.

The app is currently in progress, it runs only in Android, but soon it will be in iPhone as well. The news of the app will be sent to the refugees by the Migration Aid activists, a few hundred people have already started to use it.

For the refugees, smart phone is irreplaceable to navigate on the road, but they also shared their information among themselves on Facebook or WhatsApp. But many times, false information spread which increases the already-existing distrust.

All Hungarian prisoners get cell phones

According to borsonline.hu, it was forbidden until now, but now it will be available for the prisoners to use cell phones behind bars.

Cell phones in prison? Using the devices has been strictly forbidden so far. Not just the prisoners, but also the visitors could have phones; everyone had to give their phones. Now, however, the situation changes, according to newspaper Bors – in line with the EU practice – prisoners get an own phone in the Hungarian prisons as well.

The devices will be distributed within weeks; the measure applies to everyone regardless of who spends the punishment for what. In other words: from the simple thief to the murderer sentenced to life imprisonment everyone will get a phone.

Special phones

Borsonline.hu knows the prisoners get a special uniform device. Of course, it is not a smartphone, but a type with basic functions, which is break-resistant and impossible to dismantle. Thus, in principle, there is no opportunity to manipulate the phone’s capabilities. Keeping in touch will also be bound by strict rules. The detainees have registered contact persons, who mainly come from the kinship circle. From the phone, only the designated contact person’s number can be called, which means that machine will be available to call the given 5-6 numbers.

It cannot be called

The device is calibrated only for outgoing calls, it cannot receive calls. As in the previous, in the case of conversations conducted by landline telephones, the penal institution eavesdrops the conversations of the detainees. The website has no information the cost incurred for the National Headquarters of Prison Service, but considering that 18 thousand prisoners serving their sentence, the amount could be tens of millions of forints.

No risk

Criminal-Psychologist Dr. Jozsef Vegh has dealt with prisoners for many years.

“In my opinion, this is a great measure, which makes the lives of not just the detainees, but also the prison staff easier” – Vegh said. “The most important event of the everyday life of the inmates is keeping in touch. The cell phone strengthens the ties to the relatives, it soothes the detainees. Earlier they were in contact by correspondence with the outside world, and I remember it caused huge tensions if the letter hadn’t arrived on time. I don’t see a risk-increasing factor, the detainees are not crazy, they know the penal institute listens the conversation, they won’t discussed via phone, if they want to escape” – the expert added.

This is how you can eat in strangers’ apartments – new Hungarian application

I’m hungry, so I look at an application in my phone to see who and what is cooking in the near, I log in and I sit at the table of a stranger in 10 minutes and eat his/her cooking. If I’m done, I say goodbye, I rate the food and the host rates me as a guest. Roughly this is Yummber, a food application starting at the end of July, index.hu said.

The idea came from Peter Kalmar and Regina Boros, the latter is the founder and organizer of Macaron Day. They emphasized: this app is for brave people and they say in advance it’s not a fine dining. It’s about good home food. To eat real food at real people, and yes, it can come up that Vegeta will also be in the lunch. According to them, the point is the adventure and the company and the oft-quoted principle of shared economy. They know it’s a dividing application – there are people who’ll love it and there are people who won’t try it.

“Many people disliked Uber too, but then it worked. Uber and Airbnd are held together by confidence system, people get in your car, sleep in your bed” – Regina said. “It’s not a house restaurant” – she emphasizes. “That’s an entirely different method, there someone really cooks for a week, lay beautifully, you need to log in in advance.” For this, there’s already applications, but the Hungarian-developed Yummber is not about it. There’s no pre-registration, you decide at the moment you want to eat and the host doesn’t know either who and when will arrive to him/her.

When they announced their idea on Facebook, they thought it was good if 30-40 people would apply as a host, compared to this, more than 700 people signed they want to cook for strangers. There are among them who already have a large family and always cook a lot, there are young mothers at home who are happy when someone visit them, and there are people who’re alone and don’t feel like cooking just for themselves, but if someone visit them, they’re happy to cook, so they double benefit. And there are professionals, such as those who regularly cook elsewhere, but a chef helping at this year’s Bocuse D’or has also joined. Fine dining isn’t totally excluded, but the fact is it’s a pig in a poke  what we’re going to eat right now. Of course, after a while, only those will remain in the system who have high rating and cook really well.

The applicants underwent a strong casting, they had to fill a questionnaire and the organizers met many of them personally. When they felt someone is afraid to let a stranger into his apartment, they advised not to join Yummber in the first round. They eventually start with 150 kitchens, most of them are in the downtown, of course, which is, according to them, is a good option for tourists as well. Since someone wants to eat a good Hungarian Goulash and sees Tibi or Niki have 600 likes for Goulash, then one will go there. And he/she also could tell he/she was in the kitchen of a Hungarian.

According to index.hu, the thing is perfectly legal, because anyone can sell own food up to 14 portions in their own kitchen, you don’t need a permit at NEBIH (National Food Chain Safety Office), there’s only notification obligation. The team of Yummber held a preparation for everyone and they emphasized not to do anything differently than has been used to. If they cook two doses of food, will cook as much, at most they don’t have and eat a sandwich. But until the business starts they don’t have to have a filled freezer at home.

How does it work?

The application is simple. If I’m getting hungry, the map shows me the active hosts close to me. A photograph is displayed of what they offer and how much, for example chicken paprikash with dumplings for HUF 1200 or potato casserole for HUF 1000. I select potato casserole, which appears at the host, he/she confirms to accept or not.

Thus, it’s important that everyone can decide: who he/she let in, they can check the rating of the guest, for example. If he/she accepts, the address also appears at the hungry user and that how long he/she gets there. From this, the meeting is created. Every transactions are going through bank card, there is no cash flow, so everything can be followed. If someone once logged in somewhere, he/she accepted to deduct money. Yummber, after deducting its own commission, send the money to the hosts every week, so if someone cooks a lot and well, one can have a good income.

Phone bills higher in Hungary due to taxes, say telcos

Budapest, April 15 (MTI) – Special levies and high taxes are behind the fact that mobile calls and internet services are dearer in Hungary than in other countries in the region, according to the daily Magyar Nemzet, which conducted a survey of major telecommunication companies.

Tariffs in Austria, Serbia and Romania, countries in which the three telcos operating in Hungary are also present, are cheaper, the paper said on Wednesday.

In Serbia, for example, VAT is 20 percent compared with 27 percent in Hungary, while frequency costs and the total tax burden on sales is 32.9 percent as against Hungary’s 50 percent. On top of that, there is a 12.7 percent special telecommunications levy on turnover, the paper said, quoting Norwegian operator Telenor.

Magyar Telekom, the local unit of Deutsche Telekom, said it was difficult to evaluate prices across the sector, but it insisted Hungarian consumers receive a very good deal in terms of the quality of service a forint buys.

Vodafone did not reply to the paper’s query.

Meet ARTRIS, the new Hungarian app

ARTRIS, now available for Android and iOS devices as well, is a new Hungarian application that mixes art, puzzle and Tetris creating an informative and fun game, hvg.hu reports.

The developers created the app using only the team’s capitol and their aim was to offer something to users who want to play and learn about famous artworks at the same time. ARTRIS combines two of the most popular games everybody knows: Tetris and puzzle. Players have to recreate famous artworks (or landscapes, animals according to their choice of photo sets) from pieces that fall down just like the colourful blocks in Tetris.

On different levels, players have to solve problems, for example traversed blocks or hidden details on the pictures. You can also play ARTRIS in multiplayer mode, so if you feel secure enough in the wold of art, compete with your friends!

“Our goal was to develop an informative game that helps improving arts education, and which several generations can play with. ARTRIS is an informative and enjoyable application that also develops several skills. It might bring the world of arts closer to children, because it educates in an unconscious way. In addition, the app will come out in several other languages and we hope to find new sponsors as well, in order to upgrade the project.”-says Ágota Narancsik, one of the creative minds behind ARTRIS.

Paintings used in the app feature the most famous artists’ works: Cézanne, Van Gogh, Renoir, Klimt and Toulouse Lautrec, but you can also find Hungarian artworks in the game, names like József Rippl-Rónai, Pál Szinyei-Merse represent Hungarian fine art. The paintings used in Artris were made available by KOGART, TAT Gallery and the private collection of Gábor Kovács.

Create your own story with the new free Prezi app: ’Nutshell’ – VIDEO

The most widely known Hungarian startup company, Prezi has just released a new application, Nutshell, which is free and available for iPhone and iPad, reports origo.hu. The main aim of the app is to enable users to create stories with creative effects.

Prezi is known for their presentation software, which has been in the focus of development, but as Ádám Somlai-Fisher told origo, the company had been working on other projects as well and Nutshell is the first one that will be accessible for a wider audience. The co-founder admits that the app resembles some popular video applications like Vine or Hyperlapse, but Nutshell concentrates on storytelling rather than video recording.

The program is easy to use: you have to snap three “photos” (which are actually videos) and add captions, animations or short texts to your story – this will be the basis of your video. The story itself is generated by the program, which freezes the scenes which are complemented with captions or images.

In order to make the app user-friendly, developers had to automatize each process of video editing. For example, if a scene looks better zoomed in, Nutshell will spare you the work and zoom for you.

There is an algorithm for speeding up, slow-motion and plenty other techniques as well, so you do not have to be an expert in video editing to create a story. The size of each clip is 480×480 pixels, and 10 minutes and you can share it on Facebook and many other social media sites.

However Prezi is expanding in the United States, Nutshell had been developed in Hungary for approximately 8 months. The possible income this new app might produce has not yet been calculated, but Ádám Somlai-Fischer sees prospect in online ads and additional, priced effects as features in the new version of Nutshell. The application is still under development, the flaws of the beta version will be repaired to enable easier use.

According to the company’s own tests, Nutshell is useful for many purposes: you can introduce a person or even your own environment – this way bringing your city or your country closer to those you are in touch with. If you want to record a special moment in your life, or make an ordinary scene more exciting, Nutshell might just be the app that you are looking for!

Licence Paves Way for Digi Mobile Network

Budapest, October 30 (MTI) – Telco Digi has been awarded a licence allowing it to set up Hungary’s fourth mobile telecommunications network, the National Media and Telecommunications Authority (NMHH) said today.

Digi won a 10 MHz block in the 1,800 MHz frequency band in a spectrum tender that wound up earlier in the autumn.

The block cost 10 billion forints (EUR 32.4m) for a 10-year concession.

The three existing players on Hungary’s mobile telecommunications market, Magyar Telekom, Telenor and Vodafone, also won blocks in the tender.

Hungarian regulator extends mobile licences

Hungarian telecommunication regulator NMHH has extended until April 2022 the mobile frequency licences of Telenor, Vodafone and Magyar Telekom. The licences for the 1800 MHz frequency band were to have expired on 7 October 2014, while the licences for the 900 MHz band would have expired on 8 October 2014 (Vodafone) and 8 October 2016 (Telenor and Magyar Telekom). The licence renewal will cost the operators in total HUF 100 billion. The regulator plans to announce a tender for the remaining part of the 900 MHz frequency by the end of this year, reports telecompaper.

t-mobile_telenor_vodafone2Magyar Telekom said the extension of its licences will cost HUF 38 billion, although it will pay only HUF 34 billion as the licence for one of the spectrum blocks was shortened from 2027 to 2022. The company said its annual spectrum fees also will decrease by approximately HUF 3.8 billion between 2014 and 2022 – told telecompaper.com.
Telenor said its extension costs HUF 27 billion, although part of this will be refunded as its licence won in the 2012 auction was also shortened. As part of the agreement, the annual spectrum fees payable by Telenor Hungary will be reduced by approximately HUF 2 billion per annum.

The NMHH and operators also signed an agreement with the aim of developing the digital economy in Hungary. The agreement will guarantee sustainable growth in the mobile market and ensure a reliable framework for the encouragement of further investments in the industry, the regulator said.
