Hungary’s popular Sziget Festival 2024 announces major headliner
Sziget Festival is undoubtedly one of Europe’s most beloved and iconic music festivals. The annual festival festival attracts music lovers, artists, and cultural enthusiasts from across the globe. The organisers aim to bring the biggest names to the festival each year. Let’s dive into what Sziget 2024 has in store for us.
Sziget Festival’s big comeback
Világgazdaság writes that the organisers of the 31st Sziget Festival promise an unforgettable time this year. While the festival suffered the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic in the previous two years, it is returning to its glory. Music lovers and party animals are invited to an authentic Sziget experience this year between the 7th and 12th of August.
2024 line-up scoop
As we have reported HERE, most of the headliners for this year’s Sziget Festival have already been announced. At a press conference, the organisers dropped the bombshell: on Wednesday, the sensational Australian singer-songwriter, Kylie Minogue, will grace the Main Stage. For the full lowdown, head over to the festival’s official website.
Ticket prices
After a stint of lockdown blues, the festival regained its crown in 2023. The buzz around this year’s Sziget is even more electrifying. Tamás Kádár, Sziget’s chief organiser, said that during the Early Bird period, most 6-day passes were sold to Hungarian customers. In addition, he also mentioned the major hype about this year’s festival. Currently, prices for a full festival pass start from EUR 279, with a 3-day pass going for EUR 239, while daily tickets range from EUR 75.
What’s fresh for 2024?
Tamás Kádár added that last year’s upgrades, such as replacing mobile toilets with a series of English toilets for guest convenience, will continue at this year’s Sziget Festival. Additionally, new transport enhancements are planned to address the issue of congestion experienced by large crowds trying to leave the festival via the K and H bridges. To mitigate this, a smart signage system will be introduced to direct guests to the appropriate exits, and a regular shuttle service will be established to transport attendees from the festival to the city centre, offering an alternative to searching for taxis on Szentendrei Avenue.
Sky-high food prices
According to Tamás Kádár, last year’s budget food concept will be maintained this year. Thus, every restaurant at the festival is obligated to offer a main course for the fair price of HUF 2,500 (EUR 6.4). Last year, numerous restaurateurs tried to find a loophole by offering French fries with a dollop of sauce.
But fear not, the organisers are on the case. Restaurants vying for a spot must submit their menu in advance for approval. The festival’s main organiser added that they are trying to keep drink prices at bay, more or less at the same level as last year, which means they are not following inflation in this area.

Kick off the season in April
The 2024 festival season kicks off in April with a plethora of exciting events already on the horizon.
Midway through the month, JazzFest Budapest will grace the city, promising an eclectic array of performances spread across concert halls, clubs and public squares. The aim is to attract a diverse audience, with hopes of garnering international acclaim. Meanwhile, Művészetek Völgye offers a diverse array of cultural, theatrical and musical delights throughout the latter half of July.
August – the final round
As August dawns, FEZEN Festival and Paloznaki Jazzpiknik set the stage for the grand finale: Sziget Festival. With its stellar lineup of international pop stars and a rare spotlight on homegrown talent like Azahriah, the first Hungarian musician who will perform on the Main Stage, Sziget remains a beacon of musical excellence. The summer culminates with the Strand Festival, where another Azahriah performance awaits eager fans.

The teasers for 2024 reveal that the Sziget soundscape will be a melting pot of musical brilliance. From current chart-toppers to hidden gems and genre-defying wonders – they’ve got it all. Kádár added that four headlining acts already on board, with hopes high for more global icons. Hold your breath; the two nightly headliners for the main stage will drop early next year.
Banging line-up

The amazing Aurora will also grace us with her voice that’s captivated millions worldwide. Here is how you can buy cheap Sziget Festival and plane tickets
Wizz Air and Ryanair announced plane tickets for a discounted price, and you can also buy your Sziget Festival 2024 ticket much cheaper. We’ll show you how below.
According to turizmus.com, Revolut and Hungary’s Sziget Festival announced a cooperation. Thanks to that, the application will help sell Sziget tickets, granting special offers for its users.
Early Bird tickets are all sold out for next year’s Sziget. However, Revolut users may grab discounted tickets in the framework of the Revolut Black Friday Flash Sale between 24 and 26 November.
Those who register first and pay with Revolut Play get a EUR 20 refund for their first ticket, valid during the entire season. Users should expect additional promotions and discounts thanks to the cooperation of Revolut and Sziget Festival.
Tamás Kádár, the main organiser of the Sziget Festival, said that they sold more than 20,000 Sziget passes during the first two Early Bird campaigns. He added there would not be more Early Bird campaigns. However, interest and guest needs are so high that they decided to cooperate with Revolut and launch a special offer for the app’s users.
Cheap Wizz Air and Ryanair tickets or fake Black Friday discounts?
According to utazomajom.com, Wizz Air and Ryanair, the biggest low-cost airlines in Hungary, also offer Black Friday discounts. However, the travel news outlet warns travellers they should not buy such tickets. That is because all budget airlines follow dynamic pricing. As a result, if demand grows for a flight, prices skyrocket. As a result, prices can go very high around the days of Black Friday and become moderate after that period.
It might happen that a discounted plane ticket price now is more expensive than a normal one was a couple of days ago.
Therefore, utazomajom.hu recommends everybody buy a plane ticket only if they saw its price days before and the current price is lower. Otherwise, we should all wait until the end of the promotion period.

Billie Eilish adores Hungarian perfumes: she bought a lot in Budapest
Billie Eilish was one of the main performers at this year’s Sziget Festival in Budapest and stunned the audience with her astonishing concert. But she did not come only to perform. The next day, she went to a renowned perfumery in Budapest and bought a lot of perfume: she loved the Hungarian products there.
According to Blikk, a Hungarian tabloid, it is not a secret anymore what Billie Eilish likes concerning perfumes in Hungary. Before her visit, two American men arrived to the 7scents, a perfumery store in Budapest’s downtown 5th district, Magyar Street 18. The two men wanted to talk with the owner, Ákos Pozsgai.
They made some videos and said a well-known lady would come to visit the next day to buy scents. On Wednesday, Billie Eilish arrived, and her two bodyguards asked the owners to close the shop for the potential bystanders. The fourth, fifth and sixth member of her visitor team was a member of her staff and her parents. She was very kind and solid, Mr Pozsgai said. Billie told him she chose his store because they had scents not available in other shops.

Billie Eilish is an expert of perfumes
She spent 1.5 hours in the store and tried all of their perfumes but did not need professional help from the shop assistants. She was determined what she wanted to buy, and she likes especially sweet, vanilla perfumes. She bought a lot of different scents. Interestingly, she purchased three bottles of the Rania J Moschus scent. Finally, they took a photo, and Billie left the shop.
Mr Pozsgai said Billie seemed to be a kind person. Two customers entered the shop while she was buying products, but only the bodyguards were disturbed and asked the shop staff to distract them. Billie was not worried.

Tents left at Sziget Festival donated to those in need
Around 700 tents and camping equipment left behind at the Sziget Festival are being donated to those in need, the Hungarian Maltese Charity Service said on Friday.
Volunteers of various charities, NGOs and the Maltese Charity filled up 38 cars and vans with tents, inflatable mattresses, sleeping bags and camping chairs.
The festival’s organisers encouraged festival-goers to leave their camping equipment behind or take it to the tent of the Maltese Charity Service.
Since 2018, the charity has cooperated with the festival to ensure that camping equipment does not go to waste. The tents and other equipment are cleaned up, mended, and given to needy children and the homeless, the charity said in a press release.
2024 Sziget Festival date confirmed, special ticket offer available for limited time
The 2023 Sziget Festival is over. Organisers have announced the dates for next year’s festival and revealed special ticket offers available for a short period of time.
As we reported, 420,000 people visited Budapest for the 2023 Sziget Festival. Sziget’s scenery has been restored to its former glory, dust problems have been solved and sanitation and camping services have been improved.
“This year was a watershed in the history of Sziget. We have managed to redefine the Sziget experience by taking a big step forward and enhancing the guest experience, while the festival’s diverse programme has also been shaped to meet the needs of the domestic and ever-expanding international audience,” said Tamás Kádár. Sziget organisers have not yet said whether this year’s festival has turned a profit. The event did not have a sold-out day.
In 2024, the 30th anniversary of the Hungarian Sziget Festival in Budapest will be held between 7 and 12 August. The organisers would like to see a higher percentage of long-term season ticket holders.
“On this occasion, from 8 pm on 17 August, for 48 hours, Szitizens can buy a 6-day pass or a VIP pass at a very special price, but we are also preparing a new pass version for visitors aged 21 and under,” said Kádár, adding that the details will make it worth keeping a close eye on Sziget’s website and social platforms, turizmus.com reports.
Son of pro-government billionaire has his arm broken by police at Sziget Festival
The Sziget Festival is over, but news are still coming in about the aftermath of the Budapest event. An influential man close to the government had his arm broken by police.
The man close to the government was thrown off the Sziget
More than 420,000 people were outside the Sziget Festival 2023. Among the performers were Billie Eilish and Macklemore, who said he wants to move to Budapest. After the Imagine Dragons concert, the huge crowd could hardly leave the festival area.
According to Blikk, the arm of an influential billionaire with government-close ties was broken by the police while he was being arrested near the entrance of the festival.
Witnesses report that the man resisted the police, and had earlier threatened to press charges, disarm the police, call celebrity lawyers and his relatives. Witnesses also said that a crack could be heard when the man’s arm was broken. The young entrepreneur was thrown out of Sziget by security guards for his scandalous behaviour prior to the incident. The police checked and ensured the legality of the ban. The man was heavily intoxicated, teasing and reportedly disrupting the entertainment of many.
“The show could have been over from there, if the guy had admitted that he had indeed gone a bit overboard that day, both with the booze and his scandalous, teasing, harassing behaviour. But we saw that instead of heading home, he started to tease the cops who were at the festival entrance. He wanted to report the people who threw him out, and then all the cops… He started to take photos with his phone as they were trying to get him to stop, which led to a nasty scuffle that ended in a wrenching of the arms. The Hungarian guy was out of his mind, driven by drinks,” said an eyewitness who asked not to be named.
Police response
“At 0:35 AM on August 13, 2023, a man approached the police officers of the Sziget Festival, who were involved in security duties, to file a complaint against the security guards who he said had removed him from the event without justification. The man had previously violated the event’s rules of conduct and refused to leave. The police told the man that he could complain to the head of the security company, while he could file a complaint at the nearby Óbuda police station.
The man complained about this and said he would report the police as well. In such a case, the police have a written reporting obligation and it was necessary to establish the man’s identity. Despite repeated requests, the man failed to identify himself and the police told him that he would be taken into custody. The man refused to comply with the lawful measure and, after being told to do so, the police used physical force, handcuffed him, took him to the police station and filed a complaint for refusing to produce identification.
The man was subjected to a breathalyser test, which showed a positive result. The man complained of arm pain and an ambulance was called and he was taken to hospital for further examination. A command investigation into the incident found the action to be lawful, professional and proportionate. The BRFK also informed the prosecutor’s office,” the police said.
According to index.hu, the patrols involved in the action fear that the entrepreneur, who has real political connections and influence, will use every means at his disposal to change the decision on their action, which they consider justified.
Hungary skin cancer cases double in last 20 years
The number of skin cancer cases in Hungary has doubled in the past 20 years, experts of the Hungarian Dermatology Society (MDT) told an online press conference on Tuesday.
MDT head Norbert Wikonkal, a dermato-oncologist, pointed to the importance of prevention and early detection of skin cancer, and said the society was active in promoting regular checks, and providing counselling services and on-site screening at public events. At Budapest’s recent Sziget Festival the society’s activists tested 600 participants, of which 6 proved to be positive for skin cancer, he added.
According to Wikonkal, increased UV radiation, a result of global warming, was hazardous for exposed human skin, and he said skin cancer was especially frequent among young women and older men.
Rolland Gyulai, the society’s former head, said currently an annual 2,500 cases of melanoma, 4,500 cases of epithelioma, and 17,000 cases of basalioma were diagnosed.

At 21, Billie Eilish has devastated the music industry. Despite her young age, she won an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and 7 Grammy Awards. The most anticipated act of the Sziget Festival in Hungary, Billie Ellis was already at the Main Stage in the morning, where young people were barely going to the toilet to avoid others taking their seats, rtl.hu reports.

VIDEO: More than 420 thousand people attended Sziget Festival 2023
The main organiser of the Sziget Festival has expressed satisfaction with this year’s attendance of some 420,000 festival-goers, despite it falling short of last year’s figures by around 30,000.
Last year’s crowd of 450,000 had been the result of an increased demand for festivals after the pandemic, Tamás Kádár told MTI on Wednesday. “The two-year hiatus generated huge excitement in Europe for entertainment, so when people could go partying again in 2022, masses of people showed up everywhere,” Kádár said. “Last year’s Sziget was attended by many who had bought their tickets at the end of 2019, and then had to wait nearly three years, but they came anyway.” HERE is a summary video of this year’s Sziget experience. And some photos of Day 6:
Kádár could not yet say whether the event had made a profit, noting that the total revenue would depend on a number of additional factors, such as catering revenue. This year’s event had no sold-out days, though Friday, headlined by Imagine Dragons, and Tuesday with Billie Eilish came close, he said, adding that each day was headlined by at least one global star artist. He said Sziget had been working since 2018 to book Billie Eilish for the festival. Concerning next year’s event, Kádár said organisers aimed to sell more full festival passes than day tickets. We wrote about the chaos after the Imagine Dragons concert HERE.

Post-Sziget: American hip-hop star Macklemore would move to Budapest
The 40-year-old rapper said the buildings were staggering, the girls were stunners and the men look ripped. He added he couldn’t imagine being in bad spirit in Hungary.
According to 24.hu, Macklemore (Benjamin Hammond Haggerty) revealed he would even consider moving to the Hungarian capital for a short while. Blikk wrote that the American rapper’s Sziget gig went down as ‘the party of the year’.
During the concert, he praised the buildings and castles of Budapest, the cute Hungarian girls and the and handsome and buff Hungarian guys. He added he couldn’t imagine anyone would be in bad spirit in Hungary. It seems he had little information about the country’s grim historical background. The latest World Happiness Report published this March showed that Hungarians aren’t happy despite the astonishing buildings and the pretty girls. Hungary ranked 51st on the list even behind the Central American El Salvador. Read more on the subject HERE. The dismal results also show that every second Hungarian is discontent with their life.
Macklemore even said at one point that he would move to the Hungarian capital with his family for a couple of months. He asked the fans jokingly whether he could crash at their couch for some time. During his show, he changed his outfit multiple times and performed his closing hits wearing a T-shirt showing the Hungarian Parliament with ‘Budapest’ written underneath.
It seems he instantly fell in love with Hungary (and its people), but who can be surprised by that? Hungary is a beautiful country. Check out our COLLECTION of 15 reasons why you should come here for a visit.

Hungarian public transport companies ensure you get home smoothly after Sziget Festival
The relevant statement was shared by the MÁV-Volán Group, the Hungarian company responsible for public train and bus traffic.
The statement published on mavcsoport.hu says that both branches expect an increased traffic load in the next two days after the closing day of Europe’s largest pop festival, Budapest’s Sziget. Therefore, they will add more carriages to the Eurocity trains commuting between Budapest and Vienna. Furthermore, Citadella Intercity to Ljubljana will also operate with additional carriages.
If it’s necessitated, MÁV also promised to launch KISS trains between Budapest and Hegyeshalom, Hungary’s main border crossing to Austria. Said trains will depart from Keleti Railway Station with a scheduled stop at Kelenföld Station. Moreover, MÁV will employ more staff to provide information to festivalgoers travelling home from Budapest.

Train, bus, suburban railway, HÉV takes you home after Sziget
Meanwhile, MÁV-HÉV will also increase its capacities in Budapest to help people leave the venue of the festival, the Hajógyári Island. Trains will leave every ten minutes towards downtown, even at nighttime. In the direction of Szentendre, that will be 60 minutes since traffic will be considerably lower. Furthermore, the HÉV security crew will do its utmost best to help passengers navigate through Budapest’s transport network. The modified schedule will remain in effect until 2pm today. You may use HÉV trains in the direction of downtown with your Sziget CityPASS by Budapest Card. You can also plan your journey with the BudapestGO app. However, if you’re heading towards Szentendre, you have to purchase additional tickets on the MÁV app or in the ticket offices of MÁV-Start and BKK.
Travellers aiming towards Austria might want to consider other options than Railjets too, since this high-speed rail service operates with limited number of seats. MÁV recommends intercity trains to Szombathely and Sopron as well as the suburban S10 train.
VIDEOS: Scandals at Sziget Festival – last-minute concert cancellation, anti-Orbán slogans
Yesterday was the closing day of one of Europe’s largest festivals, Sziget, dubbed as the island of freedom. And it appears, things again didn’t go down without scandals. One of the performers cancelled their concert last-minute, while the rapper Krúbi hyped up the crowd so much that they all chanted together “Mocskos Fidesz” (in English “Filthy Fidesz!”, which refers to PM Orbán ‘s leading party) during his gig.
However, the list of scandalous incidents of the 5-day festival doesn’t stop there. On Friday, visitors had a real nightmare to exit Óbuda Island, which hosts the Sziget Festival, after the Imagine Dragons concert due to the large throng of people blocking the gates. Some festivalgoers said it took them more than 90 minutes to break free from the crowd and leave the island, which they described as a nerve-wracking experience. We reported about the incident HERE.
What’s more, yesterday, one of the most-anticipated performers of the Sziget, the Swedish rapper Yung Lean (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok), cancelled his concert last-minute. Although it shouldn’t have come as a surprise: he pulled the very same thing a year ago. As a result, the organisers had to reschedule the entire line-up, still the main stage remained empty. In the evening, Billie Eilish stole the hearts of the festivalgoers. Here are some photos of her stunning show:
Oddly, neither Yung Lean nor his manager shared any information about the reason for the cancellation. However, the fans were both outraged and devastated by the news. Others were perplexed why Sziget even bothered to re-invite the Swedish performer after his rude antics last year, index.hu wrote.
Read also:
Based on Reddit posts, Yung Lean also called off his concerts in Slovakia and Poland. In Poland, this was the third time he did so. His last gig was in Romania in July at the Electric Castle Festival, 444.hu wrote.
However, there is more tea to spill. Krúbi, a Hungarian rapper, showed up with an Orbán puppet, which he went on snogging throughout his gig. The crowd went wild, chanting “Mocskos Fidesz” (Filthy Fidesz) over and over, in chorus. Here are some videos of the bizarre scene:
We wrote HERE about the government office investigation launched against the Sziget Festival over their promo video that depicted a lesbian kiss.
Sziget Festival in trouble: government office investigation over LGBTQ video
We reported earlier that government-close media outlets and the deputy interior minister slammed one of the festival’s promotion videos because it depicted a lesbian couple. The conflict escalated on the first workday after the Sziget Festival started, last Monday, with an investigation launched by the Budapest government office.
As we unfolded the story in THIS article, government-close media outlets under the supervision of the KESMA foundation wrote that Sziget violated the Hungarian child protection law by showing a lesbian couple kissing in one of their promotional videos. Bence Rétvári, the deputy interior minister, condemned the following promo video:
https://youtu.be/SCT-70k3nLE
Rétvári said the festival’s organisers intentionally provoked the Hungarian conservatives by airing such a video. However, while aggressively pushing the LGBTQ propaganda, they also maltreat sexual minorities by selling them out for profit. Earlier, Szilárd Demeter, the leader of the Petőfi Cultural Agency and owner of a large chunk of the territory where the Sziget Festival is held, said there might come a time when they stop supporting the Sziget Festival.

Investigation launched over Sziget promo video
And it appears, the dispute doesn’t end with the festival. According to Magyar Nemzet, the leading newspaper of the government-close media, the National Legal Aid Service (Nemzeti Jogvédő Szolgálat) reported the video to the Budapest government office’s customer protection service and asked them to call on Youtube and Google to take it down. They argued that it doesn’t follow the Hungarian law, and besides such content should not be accessible by minors.
Queenz in da house party on Sziget – will that be another reason for investigation?
NJSZ believes the promotional video showing a lesbian couple in one of its first scenes breaches the so-called child protection law of Hungary, which states that promoting homosexuality to an underage audience is strictly forbidden. However, the video doesn’t give an age-restricted warning. NJSZ said the video is an additional example of aggressive LGBTQ propaganda. The government office said they started an ex officio investigation. First, they collect evidence, and after assessing them, they will decide whether to launch a procedure.
Meanwhile, the owner of Orbán’s Fidesz party membership book nr 5, and a right-wing influencer, Zsolt Bayer, harshly slammed Giorgo Fekete, the frontman of the Carson Coma. Giorgo wore a T-shirt with a slogan “Homophobes are gay” during his Sziget performance. Mr Bayer called Giorgo a “piece of shit” afterwards.
We reveal the legendary secret party spot of the Budapest Sziget Festival — VIDEO
For years, a secret party has been organised within the Budapest Sziget Festival. The legendary spot is said to be hidden behind a mobile toilet.
Every year at the Sziget Festival, there is a party that is not listed in the programme guide, nor on the maps, but everyone is dying to be part of it.
All we know about the party within the Budapest festival is that a mobile toilet serves as its entrance. With more container toilets and fewer ToiToi this year, festival-goers have it easier, but it’s still a challenge to track down this secret place.
The 16-square-metre party venue, called Secret Cube, is soundproof and has no toilet smell.

This is the best cheap and delicious food option at Sziget Festival
It is the most expensive hamburger at this year’s Sziget Festival. But it is big. Very big…
According to Telex, the average hamburger price at this year’s Sziget Festival is around HUF 4-5,000 (EUR 10.5 – 13). But there is one exception. The giant burger weighs 1 kilo. It costs HUF 9,000 (EUR 23.5), but you can fill your belly with it fully with two of your friends. Therefore, it is one of the best cheap food options if you do not want to leave the event’s venue and search for a restaurant in Budapest’s nearby 3rd district.
The gigantic street food is regularly consumed by three. That is how it costs only HUF 3,000 (EUR 7.8) per person. The bread weighs 0.5 kilo, produced only for the festivalgoers by a Hungarian bakery. The unique ban can be filled with two thin beefcakes, vegetables, and sauces. You can buy it close to the main stage at the Kaméleon Gyros & Hamburger House. Enjoy!
