The Hungarian tour operator Kartago Tours is launching its new destination Salalah, Oman, with a pre-booking promotion and sales competition. The tour operator is also launching direct charter flights to Ras Al-Khaimah this winter season.
New for the season is Salalah in Oman, also known as the “Caribbean of the East”. Ras Al-Khaimah is also included in the Kartago Tours offer for the first time this year with a direct charter, turizmus.com writes.
About 1,000 kilometres south of Oman’s capital, Muscat, lies Salalah. The city is surrounded by high mountain ranges and kilometres of wide white-sand beaches. About fifteen kilometres away is the newly created resort region of Hawana Salalah. There, some of the large resort complexes offer all-inclusive services. As in Ras Al-Khaimah in the Emirates, Kartago Tours provides a Hungarian-speaking guide.
In addition to the above, Kartago Tours will also launch a direct charter service to Hurghada in Egypt in this winter and spring timetable. The charter will be operated by Smartwings, and flights depart on Saturdays.
The newly appointed CEO of Kartago Tours Plc., Zsófia Bocsák, said:
“The two new directly accessible destinations announced by Kartago Tours’ parent company, DER Tourisik, have already been a great success in other Central European markets, so we have reason to believe that Salalah and Ras Al-Khaimah will quickly become known and popular among Hungarian travellers as well.”

Seoul, the capital of South Korea, hoisted the UAE’s flag high in celebration of Sharjah, the Guest of Honour at the 65th Seoul International Book Fair, which commenced with an inspiring Korean-Emirati cultural dialogue today (Wednesday). This vibrant cross-cultural exchange will continue to grow, flourish and inspire over the next four days until June 18, and testifies to the prestigious literary event’s deep appreciation for the emirate’s unparalleled expertise in translating the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, to build bridges with nations and cities worldwide.
The book fair’s opening ceremony was held in the presence of HE Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah’s Government Relations Department (DGR) and head of the Sharjah delegation to Seoul; Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of Sharjah Book Authority Board (SBA); Sheikh Saud Bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Director of the Sharjah Digital Office; HE Kim Keon-hee, First Lady of the Republic of Korea; H.E. Abdulla Saif Ali Slayem AlNuaimi, UAE Ambassador to the Republic of Korea, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA), HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA; HE Dr. Abdulaziz Al Musallam, Chairman of the Sharjah Institute for Heritage, Cheol-ho Yoon, Chairman of the Korean Publishers Association and Chairman of Seoul International Book Fair; and other senior officials and VIPs.
The Sharjah delegation includes 180 representatives from government institutions and UAE media, who as part of the emirate’s Guest of Honour programme, will advance His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah’s cultural project that fuels global cultural exchange by presenting fair visitors, publishers, educators, and others a vivid picture of the emirate’s successful experience in disseminating knowledge, art, and literature.
In his keynote speech, Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of DGR, and head of the Sharjah delegation praised South Korea’s leading efforts to preserve its heritage, and also successfully adopt technology to immerse the world in its literature, culture, language, food and entertainment.
“It is something I understand very well because His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, has been leading Sharjah the same way,”
he further remarked adding that it is this very “vision for development of education, culture and knowledge while protecting our heritage, and a vision to build innovation on the backbone of a strong and unique identity in a more and more homogenous global culture” that nurtures successive generations with a deep rooted mutual respect and understanding of other cultures.
In conclusion, the DGR Chairman said:
“The presence of Sharjah as a Guest of Honour at the Seoul International Book Fair raises a fundamental question for us: why are we here and what do we want to offer the Korean audience? We are not here just to showcase our publications, or our cultural, artistic and literary initiatives and events. We are here to participate in a cultural dialogue that contributes to enhancing civilisational exchange. We look forward to learning from South Korea’s experience in education, creativity, development and adopting advanced technologies. Our presence amongst you all reflects our deep faith in culture as a medium to know others, as a tool for learning, creativity and development, and as a value that upholds heritage, identity and belongingness.”
Bodour Al Qasimi: We share a common experience in investing in culture
For her part, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA said: “Sharjah and South Korea share a common experience in investing in culture to create a flourishing cultural scene that inspires the world and contributes to socioeconomic progress. For over five decades, the emirate has built a cultural environment centred around books and reading, based on its belief in the key role of books in developing nations and societies, particularly the younger generations. Sharjah’s openness to other cultures and peoples and our committed efforts to promote dialogue and understanding stems from this very belief in the positive influence of books and literature.”
“In every book fair, we have experienced magical moments of cultural curiosity, exchange and learning that have fostered respect for the nations we have visited. We always leave book fairs with the firm conviction that through these events we can promote peace, understanding and respect in this world. Book fairs are not just places to buy and sell books or exchange cultural knowledge. They are also key platforms to debate on issues and challenges we face as an industry and as a human family; two of them being climate change and sustainability,” she added.
The First Lady of South Korea welcomes Sharjah
In her keynote speech, Kim Keon-hee, First Lady of the Republic of Korea, expressed her happiness about hosting Sharjah at the book fair, and lauded its Guest of Honour programme featuring creative initiatives, cultural, artistic and literary events designed for the 5-day event. The First Lady warmly welcomed all participating Korean and international publishers, praising their influential role in supporting and developing the publishing and creative industries. Keon-hee also emphasised on the role of the Seoul Book Fair as a platform for cultural exchange and as a hub for learning about the latest trends in publishing, education, art and writing.
Book fairs represent the essence of human culture
For his part, Cheol-ho Yoon described book fairs as the crossing of an annual milestone for passionate readers and cultural enthusiasts. He stated that the book fair in Seoul reflects the essence of human culture and the roots of Korean literature, and provides an opportunity to learn about other cultures. He also praised the role of publishers in contributing to peace and development in the world. He added: “We are grateful to Sharjah, our Guest of Honour, which enjoys a rich history of constructive cultural work that has earned the city a leading position in the cultural industry. We look forward to learning more about the emirate’s experiences and initiatives in spreading knowledge and dialogue among peoples”.
Sharjah pavilion inauguration
The opening day of the Seoul book fair witnessed the official inauguration of the Sharjah Guest of Honour pavilion. Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi and Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi accompanied the First Lady of the Republic of Korea, diplomats and senior officials from cultural, creative and media institutions in South Korea on a tour of the pavilion. Visitors were introduced to Sharjah’s leading projects in various fields including art, heritage, creative industries, translation and publishing. Officials were also briefed on the literary works from Sharjah on display, including literary works by His Highness The Ruler of Sharjah that visitors to the event can enrich their personal libraries with.
The Chairman of the Seoul International Book Fair accompanied Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Sheikha Bodour Al Qasimi, and the UAE delegation on a tour of the fair’s pavilions, where they engaged with publishers and learned about their latest releases in various fields, and exchanged conversations with, authors, and visitors from Korea, the UAE, and the world.
At the end of the opening ceremony, the Sharjah National Band performed a traditional Emirati song and dance on the main stage of the fair, showcasing aspects of the UAE’s heritage, culture and identity. The band demonstrated their skills in presenting folk dances that tell stories of the ancestral lifestyle of Sharjah residents and the UAE, which was well-liked by the audience.

His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah honoured Talent Beyond Boundaries (TBB), the winner of the 7th edition of the Sharjah International Award for Refugee Advocacy and Support (SIARA 2023) in the presence of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of The Big Heart Foundation (TBHF) and Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children at UNHCR, during the award ceremony was held on Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at the Sharjah Police Science Academy.
Jawaher Al Qasimi: Goodness is a culture, an awareness, and a daily decision we don’t back down from.
The ceremony started with the UAE national anthem, and a video screening about SIARA, followed by the opening speech of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi, who said: “On behalf of TBHF and personally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah for his unwavering support of this award and his commitment to its continuity and development in achieving its goals. At a time when conflicts, disasters, tragedies, poverty and displacement are rampant, God’s wisdom creates balance in this universe and leaves us with the choice to be the helping hand in times of hardship. Therefore, you should be proud because you have carried the responsibility of goodness and made it a way of life”.
“Goodness is not a fleeting or an isolated act, but rather a culture, an awareness, and daily decision we do not back down from, and are proud to see our work bearing fruit in the lives of others. We want to see our efforts turn into a smile on a child’s face, a source of knowledge for a young mind, care for a family weakened by circumstances, and a future full of hope for the younger generations. This is how we understand goodness, and this is why we launched SIARA. It serves as a reminder that this goodness has creative people behind it and continues to provide inspiring models of hope and giving to the world,” Her Highness added.
Her Highness concluded the opening speech by encouraging good willing and kind hearted people to always be hopeful, pointing out that support will continue as the mission is not yet over.
Mariam Al Hammadi: We choose to stand by refugees driven by love and willingness
Mariam Al Hammadi noted: “Today we meet in a different competitive context – a competition that celebrates goodness and is dedicated to promoting the good. Each nominee is a winner, although only one can be crowned. Our collective commitment to choosing to do good is a significant triumph in its own right because it is a commitment to respecting the rights of human beings, a commitment of love, giving and cooperation. This free and conscious choice has shaped the global humanitarian sector. If refugees had no choice in deciding their forced fates of injustice, we in Sharjah, led by His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher, have chosen to stand by them out of love and willingness”.
She added:
“The SIARA award shines light on role models supporting refugees and providing new opportunities and beginnings. Such distinguished models need the world to stand by them, so their impact extends from one refugee to thousands and millions around the world.”
Al Hammadi congratulated TBB, asserting that the organisation has worked hard, innovated, achieved its goals, and turned the spotlight on facts that the world may have overlooked, which is that many refugees possess abilities, talents, visions, and aspirations that make them a real asset to host communities if invested in the right way. She applauded the efforts of TBHF’s committee who selected the winner of this year’s edition of SIARA.
Khaled Khalifa: TBHF has improved the lives of over a million refugees
For his part, His Excellency Khaled Khalifa expressed his appreciation and gratitude to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher, an Eminent Advocate for Refugee Children at UNHCR and a visionary leader with a big heart, visionary insight and generous contributions of around USD 30 million since 2013, which have helped to improve the living conditions of more than one million refugees around the world.
He said:
“Refugees are not just numbers; they are doctors, engineers, skilled workers, and software developers. Many have skills but lack opportunities as they find themselves in countries where they are not allowed to work. By involving governments, the private sector, and non-profit organisations, we create safe pathways that enable refugees to transition to work, resume their professions, and rebuild their lives.”
He congratulated TBB for winning the 7th edition SIARA and lauded THF’s efforts and the teams helping refugees, turning the spotlight light on their suffering, providing the necessary support, and bringing hope and joy to their hearts.
The award ceremony saw another video screening about TBB’s key efforts, achievements and success stories in helping skilled and talented refugees and displaced people.
Stephany Cousins: We dedicate our win to forcibly displaced refugees around the world
Stephany Cousins, Global CEO of TBB, expressed her gratitude and appreciation to the wise leadership of Sharjah and their visionary initiative in establishing the coveted SIARA Award, as well as to TBHF and the UNHCR for their steadfast commitment and tireless efforts to ensure its continued success every year. She emphasised: “Refugees possess skills and aspirations and can positively impact the work environment, economies, and societies when given the right opportunity and allowed to migrate to places that need their skills and experiences. At the same time, this positive impact can be extended to refugee families and communities in their country of origin during reconstruction”.
She added:
“We have succeeded in helping more than 1,200 refugees find sustainable solutions to their displacement, which is a small part compared to the achievements we will make with your support. A single organisation can’t find a solution for refugees and displaced persons, as it requires collective efforts and radical changes in systems and practices. I am honoured to dedicate this award to refugees and forcibly displaced individuals around the world who seek to practise their professions and achieve their dreams in the darkest conditions and challenges. Together, we will build a world where refugees and displaced persons can migrate safely and peacefully to work.”
Yusra Mardini: The award embodies the values of generosity and kindness that represent the UAE and its people
On being a refugee, Yusra Mardini, a swimmer in the Olympic Refugee Team and a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, said: “I went through the ordeal of seeking refuge in 2015 and suffered its harshness, which is why the UNHCR and the initiatives of TBHF and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi hold a special place in my heart. Her Highness is a truly inspiring role model who has tirelessly advocated for refugees over the years and actively champions the cause of UNHCR.”
She added: “With the increasing numbers of refugees worldwide, it may be easy to forget that they are real people with stories that speak of their resilience in the face of crises, aspirations, and dreams that bring a bright glimmer of hope. As a Goodwill Ambassador for UNHCR, I have been able to tell my story and other stories of refugees I have met throughout my journey. Therefore, I would like to take this opportunity to shed light on our stories to raise awareness about the refugee issue around the world.”
She congratulated TBB and thanked His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah and Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Al Qasimi for supporting SIARA which exemplifies the ethics and values of goodness and hospitality of the UAE and the Emirati people.

The Big Heart Foundation has announced the honoring of the nonprofit international organization Talent Beyond Boundaries (TBB) as the winner of the 7th edition of the Sharjah International Award for Refugee Advocacy and Support (SIARA 2023). This recognition comes as a tribute to the organization’s innovative efforts from 2016 until today aimed at improving the lives of thousands of refugees and individuals in need worldwide. TBB is the world’s first and only organization that works on connecting refugees and individuals in need with international job opportunities, enabling them to resume their professional lives, rebuild their future, and achieve self-sufficiency by opening skilled migration pathways. The NGO has empowered thousands of refugees to seize life-changing opportunities and migrate for work in various refugee hosting countries.
The seventh edition of the AED 500,000 SIARA award selected TBB from among 423 candidates representing 41 countries worldwide. This recognition highlights the organization’s innovative approach in addressing the gaps in humanitarian efforts dedicated to refugees globally. TBB has made a significant impact on governments in various countries, inspiring them to revise and enhance their migration programs and visa services. As a result of TBB’s unparalleled efforts, several hosting countries such as Australia, Canada, and the UK have launched initiatives like the ‘Hiring Displaced Talents’ program, which enables refugees to utilize their abilities, skills, educational qualifications, and work experiences in official job opportunities within these nations.
The organization is renowned for being the first nonprofit to initiate an International Job Fair exclusively for skilled refugees and displaced individuals. Through this initiative, they connect and pair individuals with prominent international companies and employers who are in need of their skills and expertise. Additionally, the NGO provides specialized educational, vocational, and training programs to enhance the skills and expertise of highly qualified refugees before proceeding with employment procedures in international companies. These programs prioritize areas such as English language proficiency, computer and software training, and communication skills to ensure that individuals are well-prepared for job interviews.
Additionally, the organization has successfully provided its services to more than 6,000 refugees. Upon completion of the job acquisition procedures, the organization facilitates the immigration and relocation processes to the new workplace. It also ensures the provision of basic necessities such as housing, food supplies, legal guarantees, and documentation. This enables refugees to access essential healthcare services, social integration support, and other daily basic services. These efforts are carried out by distributed teams operating in various countries worldwide, ensuring ongoing support for refugees even after their migration and facilitating their smooth integration into new communities. Consequently, the organization has contributed to increasing refugees’ annual income by over 750%. Moreover, it has established a digital platform that verifies the professional qualifications of more than 65,000 refugees worldwide.
According to TBB’s 2023 skills mapping of 65,000 refugees, 64 percent of registrants reported having intermediate English proficiency or higher, which is a significant percentage. Additionally, 34 percent of the registrants have completed a bachelor’s degree or higher, surpassing the global average. The top industries among refugee registrants include Skilled Trades, Industrial Engineering, Healthcare, Computer Science, and Finance.
Refugee talents are a significant addition to the global job market
TBB dedicated its efforts to make change and transform the concept of refugee support from waiting for assistance from donors to empowering refugees and enabling them to change their lives with their talents and skills through work. The non-profit’s strategy came in response to reports which indicate that 12.7 million of the world’s refugees are of working age, and amongst them millions are skilled, but live in countries where they have limited rights and cannot work.
The NGO has designed pioneering skilled migration pathways in collaboration with corporates, recruiters and non-profits worldwide to connect over 1,100 refugees with companies in need of their skills, while also benefiting over 5,000 additional refugees have gained from TBB’s services and support. TBB also works closely with governments to address policy barriers and implement visa program changes that enable more skilled refugees and their families to successfully relocate to developed economies, offering them a fresh start.
By mapping and documenting the professional backgrounds of over 65,000 refugees on their Talent Catalog, a fit-for-purpose tech platform, TBB identified in-demand workers across more than 200 occupations, and currently engages over 300 employers, from hospitality to healthcare to tech firms, to recruit refugees to fill pressing skill gaps.
Preserving the Earth for future generations and meeting climate targets is contingent on making investments in nuclear energy and the electric vehicle industry, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said in a panel discussion on energy affairs in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
Green targets – no politics
Hungary’s government aims to maintain a well-balanced approach to investments in energy and environmental protection as both aspects are needed to boost competitiveness, the foreign ministry cited Szijjártó as saying. “We never considered a green deal or green targets as political or ideological issues but ways to protect the planet for future generations,” he said. Instead of seeking to profit from political communications, the international community should prepare well-grounded, pragmatic and realistic strategies, he said. Hungary is one of fewer than twenty countries in the world that has managed in recent years to reduce harmful emissions while boosting economic growth, he said.
Green change realistically – goes the video’s title:
As part of this strategy, Hungary will become climate neutral by 2050, and by expanding nuclear and solar energy capacities, 90 percent of electricity production will become carbon neutral by 2030 as against the current 65 percent, he added. Solar energy capacity will grow from the current 4,500 megawatts to 12,000 megawatts by 2050 and nuclear energy capacity from 2,000 megawatts to 4,400 megawatts, he said. Szijjártó warned that burden-sharing could not be called fair when countries that contribute to climate change the least suffer its consequences the most. The largest polluters should take a much greater role in cutting their emissions, he said.

Paks nuclear power plant extension helps Earth?
Some 14 percent of global air-polluting emissions are linked to public road transport, he said, adding that there was “no hope” of preserving Earth and climate targets without making the transition to electric vehicles, he said, adding that developed countries must work together on this. Hungary has taken great responsibility in this field as the fourth largest electric battery producer in the world, he said, adding that the country was becoming a meeting point for Eastern and Western companies in the sector. Szijjártó said that nuclear energy was a safe and environmentally friendly method for producing energy, enabling states to become independent of the fluctuations of international markets. The project to add new reactor blocks to the Paks nuclear power station will enable carbon dioxide emissions to be reduced by 17 million tonnes and gas use by 3-3.5 billion cubic metres annually, he added.
Despite all these advantages, further efforts are needed to fight discrimination against nuclear energy in the European Union, he said. Some EU member states, he added, were trying to hinder the ongoing Paks expansion project. Szijjártó said the German government’s refusal to approve an earlier approved deal for Siemens Energy to supply control technology for the Paks plant was “unfair” and “an attack against Hungary’s sovereignty”.
Many passengers complained about the Hungarian low-cost airline for frequently cancelling flights. Some even speculated that Wizz Air intentionally cancels its particularly cheap flights. However, the root of the issue can be found elsewhere.
According to okosutas.hu, Wizz Air weekly modifies its schedule. Members of the editorial staff of the media outlet noticed a message concerning the cancellation of a Budapest-Dubai flight. However, that was only conspicuous because they expected a modification in their schedule.
Dubai is a popular destination, so the Hungarian low-cost airline continuously increased capacities. Therefore, it seemed unrealistic that they would cancel such a high-demand route. A modification was rather likely since one of Wizz Air’s most important bases is now in Abu Dhabi. Thus, it was imaginable, though unlikely that they would redirect all the flights there.
Interestingly, after the cancellation, the flight remained reservable. Many readers of okosutas.hu wrote that they bought cheap tickets for the flight, and Wizz Air probably messed with them by cancelling it. However, that was also unrealistic because the cancellation allowed the passengers to book other flights with their already-purchased tickets. The price actually increased due to sellouts as it was surprisingly low at the beginning.
According to utazomajom.hu, another Hungarian travel news media outlet, Wizz Air passengers received false information about the cancellation of their flight due to a technical error. The airline said they noticed the problem and worked on finding a solution. The company apologised for the inconvenience and wrote that they would notify all passengers affected in emails about the next step.
Wizz Air timetable more stable this year
Now Wizz Air realised that there was a technical problem behind the cancellations. A group of passengers received a notice yesterday that their flight’s status had changed, and they could travel to Dubai. If somebody re-routed because of their previous cencallation notice, they may opt back to their ticket to the original date. According to okosutas.hu, the rate of cancellations and modifications has dropped recently. Having said that, a couple of weeks prior, the airline again modified their June Stockholm flight. As it turned out, there will be no Monday flight, so people must extend their accommodation for one more day. Nevertheless, the Hungarian travel news outlet admits the situation is not as chaotic as it used to be in 2022. The schedule of Wizz Air seems more stable this year.
Passengers were left hoping that summer holiday flights would not be modified. Last year, it occurred multiple times that Wizz Air did modifications, weeks before the actual departures.
From 1 June, Emirates, one of the national airlines of the United Arab Emirates, will increase its weekly flights between Budapest and Dubai to seven. Now, the flight operates only five times between the Hungarian capital and the most populated city of the UAE.
More flights between Budapest and Dubai from 1 June
From 1 June, Emirates will increase the number of its flights between Budapest and Dubai to seven a week, Utazómajom reports. Meanwhile, the airline will also expand its services on several routes popular with Hungarian travellers. It will also introduce its legendary A380 giant aircraft to new destinations.
The world’s largest international airline will increase its capacity by almost a third across its entire network from 26 March. In response to growing demand as the summer season approaches, it has already announced further expansions.
From 1 June, the airline’s aircraft will fly daily between the Hungarian capital and Dubai, instead of the current five weekly flights. Hungarian flight attendants will be waiting for passengers on flights, who can even enjoy Hungarian-language content (films, music) during the flight. This is possible thanks to the airline’s in-flight entertainment system, Utazómajom writes.
Emirates is also increasing its services to popular Far East destinations such as Bangkok, Beijing, Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo. Meanwhile, those flying to Australia, New Zealand and Africa will also have a wider choice of flights.
From 4 May, the airline Emirates will increase the number of its flights to Budapest from 5 to 6 per week, and from 6 June, it will start daily flights to Liszt Ferenc International Airport.
On 15 January, Emirates made a schedule update on 30 of its routes, increasing frequencies on some routes and reducing others, airportal.hu said.
On the Dubai – Budapest route, the airline has planned 5 flights per week for the summer period, as previously, using Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
However, according to the update just published, flights will be operated on Thursdays from 4 May and on Tuesdays from 6 June, restoring the pre-global weather daily service between Dubai and Budapest.
The EK 111 flights will depart Budapest at 2:25 PM and return to Dubai at 4 PM with EK 112, according to the summer schedule.
In addition to the airline’s daily service, Flydubai will continue to operate flights between Dubai (DXB) and Budapest seven days a week, according to the information available on the booking systems, with Emirates selling tickets as a codeshare partner.
Flydubai flies to Budapest in Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, landing at Liszt Ferenc Airport in the late evening at 9:35 PM and returning to Dubai at 11:35 PM. Together, the two airlines now offer 14 flights a week between the two cities.
For the first time, a Hungarian company can buy land and build a hotel in the United Arab Emirates. The Hungarian-owned hotel will be located on the artificial, man-made Al Marjan Island. Construction of PRESTON’s 255-room hotel complex will start next year, Index reports.
A Czech-Hungarian hotel in the United Arab Emirates
Czech-Hungarian PRESTON is financing the Sun Beach Resort project from its own capital, the sale of corporate bonds issued in the Czech Republic and the sale of hotel rooms. The PRESTON company was founded by Czech businessman Filip Navrátil and his Hungarian partner Bálint Hegyvári, Index writes.
The Hungarian-owned luxury hotel is to be built in Ras Al Khaimah, one of the fastest growing tourist centres in the Emirates. PRESTON purchased the approximately 10,000 square metres of land on Al Marjan Island for around USD 8.5 million, while the total cost of the project is around USD 50 million.
Construction of the Sun Beach Resort project will start in early 2023 and is expected to take just one year. This is mainly due to the modular construction solution, Index reports. The building’s elements will be prefabricated in Latvia beforehand, so that on site, the elements are just assembled on top of each other.
The hotel is operated by Earth Hotels. It is aimed primarily at the self-sustaining and eco-centric generation, the so-called avocado generation (i.e. young travellers born after the 1990s, digital nomads). The complex is fully tailored to the needs of today’s digital generation.
For example, at the hotel, guests can do everything from one app, and even see how much water and electricity they used during their stay. With this, they can see how their ecological footprint is changing over the course of their holiday. Desert camel rides, motorbike rides, jet skis can be booked from one’s phone. On top of that, the hotel offers recreational activities such as yoga, martial arts and water sports. Mountain treks to nearby Jebel Jais are organised regularly.
Everything is done digitally, so it is not even planned to have a reception in the traditional sense. There will be no queues, no paperwork, no passport control, and guests will be able to book their rooms instantly using their smartphones. As well as being eco-conscious, the restaurant will also focus on sourcing produce from local producers. Ras Al Khaimah produces the most vegetables in the country, with a seasonal abundance of citrus and mango.
People who wish to live in Dubai, the UAE, and look for cost of villas in Palm Jumeirah, for example, most often dream of living in a warm comfortable climate near the sea, with all the possibilities it can offer: swimming pools, large parks for walking and jogging, water sports options, etc. But quite a lot of families are a bit afraid of moving to a totally new country: they just don’t know whether they will be allowed to live as they are used to. Especially if these families have children.
Of course, seaside living, swimming in sea water, and all-year-round warm climate are the perfect setting for kids. But what if boys and girls will not be allowed to shout and run in public spaces? What if the teenagers will be forbidden to skate, listen to their music in a park, and just enjoy their time with friends?
Miami-Style Living
When you’re going to invest in a real estate unit in Dubai, you usually dream of Miami-style living. But Dubai is a multi-national urban area, and many people have questions if the laws allow such lifestyle as pool parties, water sports, equestrian sports, and so on.
Yes. Though there are a lot of Muslims and other religions with strict rules in Dubai, this is a multi-national urban area where people respect each other and don’t dictate their rules to their neighbours. Of course, you also need to respect people around you – just usual community rules are enough to maintain. The laws are not strict here, and of course you can have pool parties, or beach birthday parties, unless you don’t disturb your neighbours.
And of course most sports are allowed here. You can even find new sport options here, for example, the traditional Arabian hawk hunting – in Dubai there is even a dedicated center where you can get to know more about it, and people who master this kind of sport can train you.
There are several international-class golf clubs and equestrian centers in Dubai. And of course you will find a lot of waterfront sport options here: water skiing, surfing, wakeboarding, kayaking, yachting, swimming, diving and snorkeling, and many others. There are dedicated sporting goods stores for nearly any kind of water sport you can imagine, and numerous training centers for those who wish to learn something new.
Popular Waterfront Amenities
When purchasing a waterfront property in Dubai, you can be sure that it will offer numerous amenities and resident-friendly well-developed environment where you can fully enjoy your time near the sea.
The most popular waterfront amenities include:
Walking promenade with stores and shops;
Parks with walking and jogging paths where you can enjoy sea breeze;
Numerous special amusements, like waterfront parties, special events, and festivals;
Safe children’s playgrounds;
Waterfront lounge areas;
Easy access for boats, bikes, and pedestrians;
No noisy traffic and large parking lots;
Additional activities such as boat tours, fishing, floating pools, rock skipping, and so on;
Thematic events, such as fish markets, boat and yacht festivals and sailing regattas, balt and tackle shops, concerts and performances on floating stages, and so on;
Private communities usually offer swimming pools, sundecks, private BBQ areas, etc.
Healthy Lifestyle
Waterfront property is the best option for healthy-lifestyle enthusiasts: such location offer not just numerous water sports possibilities. There are also numerous parks near the coastline with comfortable walking and jogging paths, as well as dog parks where you can enjoy your time with your pet.
It is quite often that a waterfront promenade includes dedicated sport areas with sporting equipment and yoga areas. Besides, numerous healthcare groups exercise at waterfront parks and sport areas: people practice group yoga, wushu, breathing exercises, group jogging.
Teenagers will be happy to find dedicated skating parks here and areas of street culture festivals with street dances, music, and graffiti.
Dedicated dancing marathons are being held in Dubai promenades, for example, bachata marathons, afro dance marathons, Zumba marathons, etc.
This is the area where you can find healthy food stores with a wide range of different fruits, vegetables, and granola, as well as restaurants and cafes with vegetarian and vegan menus.
Purchasing Real Estate in Dubai
Dubai property prices are constantly growing in recent years, and it means that purchasing a real estate unit in this city will be a good investment of your capital. Besides, most waterfront areas are already developed, so new waterfront property options are limited currently. The less the offer the higher the prices will be in future, so now is the best time to purchase a waterfront residential property in Dubai.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) celebrated the country’s National Day yesterday, which marked the 51st anniversary of the state’s founding in the magnificent Royal Stables of the Buda Castle in Budapest.
Several Hungarian government officials took part in the festivity accompanied by mayors, business leaders, scientists and many friends of the United Arab Emirates, including Alpár Kató, the owner of our news website.
The event’s honorary guest was Mr István Jakab, vice president of the Hungarian National Assembly, Ambassador Saud Alshamsi, the UAE’s top diplomat in Budapest, wrote on his official Facebook page today evening. They all celebrated the United Arab Emirates and its successes.
Genevation Aircraft Ltd announced in a statement that they would partake in the drone development program initiated by the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology of the United Arab Emirates.
Sheikh Rashid Bin Ahmed Al Maktoum, a member of the Dubai royal family and chairman of RAM Investment, signed a declaration of cooperation with the Hungarian company operating in Jakabszállás, Bács-Kiskun County, to develop drones together. The project will start next year, portfolio.hu wrote.
The cooperation’s framework is the UAE’s “Operation 300bn” program, a 10-year-long strategic initiative aiming to develop the country’s industry into a key sector. They would like that segment of the local economy to generate EUR 78 billion for the state’s GDP.
The Hungarian company is a NATO supplier. They develop and build aircraft, improve composite structures and create aerial vehicles (drones). The company has been working recently on a high-speed military drone. Furthermore, it played a key role in creating a hydrogen-powered VTOL, an aerial vehicle capable of vertical take-off and landing.
The Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) was a success again this year, bringing publishers, authors and readers together once again for almost two weeks. In fact, celebrities you’re unlikely to run into at any other time were invited to the event. Neil Strauss attended a lecture and I had the chance to interview him briefly afterwards.
Neil Strauss is a double favorite of mine, not only because he is a very good writer who, with The Game, for example, has brought to the table an extraordinary work on the art of conquest, but also because he is, in a sense, a colleague. A ten-time New York Times bestselling author, the Rolling Stone magazine figurehead has interviewed a number of celebrities, and I had the opportunity to listen to a lecture and ask him a few questions in person.
The impact of celebrity books on our world
Books written by and about celebrities are among the most popular genres among readers worldwide, topping the bestseller lists. But why do celebrities impress readers? Neil Strauss and Egyptian screenwriter Ahmed Mourad, who writes both fiction and non-fiction in Arabic, sought to answer this question.
The performance was also interesting in the sense that it brought together two different and rich cultures on stage. There was Strauss from the US and Mourad, an Arab writer well-known to locals. There were some things they agreed on, but also, for example, differing opinions on the audience’s overwhelming obsession with celebrity accounts and memoirs.
“We usually have one image of celebrities in our minds, and their real story turns out to be completely different. This helps us feel better about our own lives and problems. What fascinates me about interviewing celebrities is that we think money and fame will solve all our problems. But they only make our problems bigger. I remember it was Bruce Springsteen who said, ‘The human psyche is not designed to go from playing music in a garage to playing on a stage in front of 75,000 people,'” Strauss said.
In contrast, Ahmed Mourad believes that the adoration of famous people’s lives is “part of human nature”:
“It’s the nature of humanity: in our minds, famous people are close to fictional characters. Our own lives may not give us the opportunity to experience these worlds they live in,” said the Egyptian writer.
Celebrities’ stories reach even more people in the age of social media, with many posting every detail of their lives online. Strauss sees books, as opposed to short entries, as the real value, because, he said, a book gives you the opportunity to tell a story well. “Their struggles, their difficulties, and their journey can only be captured in a proper narrative. It has also become much harder for celebrities to get their stories out there these days, as every little detail can be analysed and torn apart,” he said.
Mourad took an interesting approach to celebrity books. According to him, recording the lives of celebrities can be as important as any other record in terms of preserving human memories and values. “If celebrities don’t tell their stories, we risk losing important parts of their lives forever. We must learn to accept their stories without criticism or analysis.”
Both writers accepted that celebrity stories are as important to storytelling as any other format.
On the subject, Strauss made a very thought-provoking statement.
“We’ve all been through a lot. We want to move on, we want to move beyond our lives. It’s just that celebrities get paid to write it!”
Interview with Neil Strauss
It was getting very late when the fans finally let Neil Strauss go after the show, so I only had the chance for a short interview, but here I learned that Bruce Springsteen was his most sympathetic and relaxed interviewee. As Neil put it, he has been one of the most famous musicians in the world for decades, yet he drives without bodyguards, drives his own car, walks the streets of New York and even sits in a bar without any problems and is very easy to talk to. Unlike many celebrities, you can’t even sit in a restaurant with them without bodyguards, and the conspicuousness attracts crazy fans.
Strauss has met many stars in his life, but to him, the most memorable location and interviewee was Italy’s Calabria region and the person he spoke to there: he conducted a lengthy interview with a mafia leader. As he said, it was a special experience to be there, even in the home of the family leader.
It was also an outstanding experience to interview Chuck Berry, Strauss said. According to him, one of rock and roll’s most important personalities never gave a longer interview because he hated journalists, but somehow they found common ground and talked for three hours, and he invited Strauss to his house the next day.
I was very interested in the journalistic trick of how he was able to get some of the world’s most famous celebrities in for interviews early in his career. Strauss said: whatever it takes!
“Sometimes it’s Rolling Stone magazine or the New York Times, other times you have to find someone they trust, and that’s how you find and interview the celebrity. There was one of the latest big hits, Elon Musk. There was someone who knew both of them and that’s how the meeting came about. So the first challenge is to set up the meeting, and the second challenge is to get as much access to the person as possible, and to get a glimpse into their real life that no one else has had the opportunity to see.”
Regarding his famous book, The Game, he said that he was approached by a group of “date artists” and they wanted him to write a book about them. He turned them down at first, then, because he wasn’t that successful with women, he joined the group privately, and once he was in and really fascinated by the whole story, he decided that yes, it was worth a book. The rest is history and he has certainly helped millions of men to be successful in dating.
I find Strauss to be an extremely interesting and often philosophical man, it’s worth following his Instagram account for example, he shares a lot of his thoughts there too. I asked him what he felt was missing in his life. What’s the big thing that he still wants to do? And his answer is simple, yet noble:
I’d like to see my son grow up, and then I’d like to write books or podcasts or whatever. The first part of life is more like survival, the second part is there to develop deep relationships with people, and most importantly, be good to yourself!
As for Hungary, he said he’s been here before, but not very recently, so he definitely wants to get to Budapest soon. Orlando Bloom invited him to the Hungarian capital when the American actor was filming here, but Strauss couldn’t take the opportunity. However, he insisted that he loved Budapest and that if he comes again, we should meet and continue our conversation.
The 41st Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF) was a great success again this year, with many people attending the almost two-week event. We interviewed Khawla Al Mujaini, General coordinator of SIBF.
Daily News Hungary (DNH): What started 41 years ago as a small local book fair has grown into one of the largest book fairs in the world. Could you tell us how this was achieved? What is the secret of their success? Al Mujaini: We followed the vision of His Highness, who believed that SIBF had huge potential. We tried to make his vision a reality. Networking was important in this development. We started attending book fairs around the world, both for them to get to know us and for us to get to know others. Also important on the way to success was to make contact with Arab writers and publishers and connect them with the international market. There should be a strong message in such an event, and it is also forward-looking to embrace the changes and challenges that the years bring.
DNH:Hungary participated in the SIBF for the first time. Can you give us some details? Al Mujaini: We were very happy to welcome our guests from Hungary, as it was indeed the first time they had come from your country. As far as I know, they participated in the Publisher Conference events.
DNH:Can you also recommend the event to Hungarians or to Central Europeans? Al Mujaini: We welcome guests from all over the world because we can offer both cultural and business opportunities to Hungarian publishers and authors. These things make it worthwhile to visit us in the future. There are always new opportunities, who knows, maybe one day we will be the special guests of the Budapest Book Week. UAE is trying to offer opportunities to publishers in European countries so that they don’t have to go to other Asian countries to print books, they can just come to the Emirates for the cheapest deal.
DNH:What do you think about the book being the past and digitisation the future? Al Mujaini: I don’t believe in it. Books will be with us forever, digitalisation will not solve that, because the readability, touch, and smell of books will always be with us. Yes, we use digital channels to advertise books, but that doesn’t mean that books will ever go out of use. In fact, in my experience, the younger generation still has a need for books, in addition to growing up surrounded by digital devices. Children’s books are a priority category at the book fair, as there is a huge market and there is always a demand for newer and newer themed stories, tales, and coloring books alongside older titles. In English, Arabic, or even Hungarian.
DNH:Although it is not part of the book fair, we would be curious to know why Sharjah is the perfect tourist destination for people? Al Mujaini: Sharjah is a family-oriented and safe city. The community here is very friendly as it is multinational and open to everyone. There are many attractions in Sharjah, such as the magnificent Khar Fakkan, or even the House of Wisdom. There are many activities for tourists: Aquarium, Butterfly Park, and many more. So, it must be on your bucket list for when you come to the United Arab Emirates. We welcome you all!

The annual book fair, which places publishers at the heart of the cultural event, opened opportunities for professionals in the industry to network, matchmake, and forge partnerships. 26 publishing houses from Egypt, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, India, UK, Morocco, Algeria, Tunis and UAE, are embarking on a new journey to make inroads in the region and beyond by signing up to avail the support facilities and services at the Sharjah Publishing City Free Zone.
AED 4.5 million grant
During the fair, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, directed the allocation of AED 4.5 million to equip the emirate’s libraries with the latest titles from regional and international publishing houses who have a presence at the 41st SIBF.

In addition, there were 8,400 individual posts from the public and media that used the hashtag in Arabic and English.
Building communities of readers
HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of SBA, said: “Curtains came down on the 41st Sharjah International Book Fair with over 2.17 million visitors. These are not mere visitors but ambassadors who carry forward the message and vision of SBA, and the emirate’s cultural project that was founded five decades ago by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed AlQasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, which has grown and borne fruit, the latest of which is the recognition as the world’s largest book fair for the second year in a row.”
The SBA Chairman added: “One of the core goals of the book fair is to raise awareness on the importance of reading, and build communities that believe in the value and impact of books. We have achieved this goal to a large extent. Our goal is to transcend the idea that reading is an activity for intellectuals only. At SBA, we believe that reading is for all segments of the community whose interests span across varied fields like music, cinema, sports, architecture, fashion, or any other. This was reflected in the diversity of SIBF guests in the 41st edition whose relationship with books was evident during their participation at the event.”
Khoula Al Mujaini, General Coordinator of SIBF, said: “SIBF vibrant agenda of activities in its 41st edition offered a comprehensive experience that attracted visitors and distinguished artists, sportsmen and authors from all around the world. The high footfall is a clear indicator of the status and importance of the international book fair in meeting the demands of its guests, regardless of age and nationalities.”
This year, SIBF 2022 hosted 2,213 publishers, comprising 1,298 from the Arab region and 915 from around the world. Under the book fair’s cultural programme this year, SIBF hosted 150 distinguished authors, intellectuals and creatives who led 1,500 activities and sessions including 200 activities encompassing workshops, talks, and seminars.
Zlatan Ibrahimović at Sharjah International Book Fair 2022
“You can’t buy an experience but you can buy a book about experiences and learn from them,” said footballing legend Zlatan Ibrahimović, a prolific goalscorer and bestselling author of I Am Zlatan and I Am Football, at the concluding session of the 41st edition of the Sharjah International Book Fair.
“Books provide inspiration and give many people access to learn from experts,”
said the Swedish professional footballer who has enjoyed success both on the field and in the world of literature with his bestselling memoirs.”I believe it is my responsibility to share my experience and write what I have learnt to make better people and footballers in the world,” he added.
Advising young readers and his fans of all ages in the packed ballroom, the Sweden forward said: “When you do something in life, do it because you believe in it. When something feels natural and real, that’s when it works all the time.”
The excitement in the ballroom was truly palpable as Ibrahimović, who plays as a striker for Serie A club AC Milan and has scored almost 600 goals between his multiple clubs and his national team, walked into the auditorium and onto the stage.
Describing him as “still young”, the celebrated 41-year-old footballer and author of Adrenaline: My Untold Stories, attributed his success on and off the field over the last 23 years to “working hard for what you want to achieve.”
He said: “I don’t do things to cater to the expectations of others and when people doubt me, it fills me with passion and I never give up or let the opinions of others slow me down.”
Expressing his pride in his discipline and ‘bullet-proof’ mentality, Ibrahimović noted that he maintains this resolve by surrounding himself with inspirational people and inspiring others.
In response to a question, Zlatan said:
“Roberto Carlos probably had the biggest impact on my career as a fellow player, because of the competition we shared between each other. He was an explosive player, and in some ways, he grounded and pushed me to be even better than I was.”
Responding to a question, the Swedish footballer said although he considers Lionel Messi and Christiano Ronaldo to be rather special, it was ultimately up to the fans to decide.
Speaking about the upcoming World Cup, the acclaimed footballer said he expects Argentina to take the title and that he hopes for Messi to hold up the World Cup trophy.
“Every World Cup is exciting as it’s the biggest stage for football to be played on, it is always special to me whether I’m playing or not. Regardless of my prediction, the best team on the day will take the trophy home.”
Expanding on his thoughts about Messi, Zlatan said, “Messi truly loves football as I do, and we both love to give back to the game. This is very important – giving back to the sport we love is a big part of our journey.”
The Hungarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the UAE Chamber of Commerce and Industry have jointly established the UAE-Hungary Business Council and will hold its first meeting in Budapest.
The MKK invited representatives of major companies and investors from the UAE to participate in an event aimed at building partnerships with Hungarian companies.
Government and investment promotion organisations from the UAE will also join the delegation to help Hungarian businesses enter the market and grow, novekedes.hu reports.
“I see the establishment of the UAE-Hungary Business Council as an extremely important factor in strengthening the two economies through effective cooperation, joint programmes and communication,” said Saud Al Shamsi, UAE Ambassador to Hungary.
