‘Sky war’ on its way to Hungary: front to bring gale-force winds
A frontal system is approaching Hungary, which is currently causing gale-force wind gusts in western Europe.
The wet, cloudy weather is caused by a moving frontal system, called Louis, currently still to the west of Hungary. It is gradually approaching the Carpathian Basin and will slowly move eastwards on Saturday, weakening as it does so, HungaroMet reported on Facebook.
Thus, on Saturday afternoon, the eastern part of the country will be hit by its precipitation band.
In a comment, HungaroMet added that Louis is producing strong gusty, hurricane-force winds in northwestern Europe.
According to Időkép, umbrellas may be needed in several places mainly east of the Danube on Saturday, with cloudy, partly sunny weather expected in the Transdanubian region.
Temperatures will be 3-12 degrees Celsius in the early morning, with cooler temperatures in the west and northwest. In the afternoon, 12-16 degrees Celsius are expected.

Is it time to say goodbye to the depressing winter weather in Hungary?
In the past few days, many people in Hungary experienced extreme headaches. It does not come as a surprise after seeing the drastic weather change. For now, we can bid farewell to the gloomy and freezing weather and enjoy a bit of spring in the midst of winter. Will the pleasant sunny weather stay in our beloved country?
Unexpected warmth
As 24.hu also notes, Strom Ingunn struck Norway with hurricane-force winds, reaching speeds of up to 220 km/h. This event consequently led to unseasonably mild conditions locally. This weather phenomenon resulted in the west-easterly flow that brought the warm weather from Spain to the Carpathian Basin. Now, the weather is pleasant in Hungary, usually, the temperatures and weather conditions get this good towards the end of March or April. It may be shocking that in 1954, the weather was as low as minus 27.7 degrees Celsius in our country.
Will the pleasant weather stay?
As we progress through the week, the prevailing dry and sunny conditions with temperatures ranging from 10 to 17 degrees Celsius will persist. However, a shift in weather patterns is imminent in the western regions. After Scandinavia, a potent cyclone is now taking shape in the southern British Isles. This development is causing the polar vortex to collapse and the airflow to become north-south again.
Consequently, Western Europe is poised to experience heavy rainfall, while the central regions, including Hungary, will experience even warmer air coming from further south. Saturday and Sunday will see highs of around 11 degrees in the west, 17 degrees in the west and around 20 degrees elsewhere, with some scattered precipitation. However, it is too early to celebrate the amazing weather, as a new weather front is on its way. The front is expected to arrive early next week.

Winter weather approaching
Early next week, heavy, countrywide rain is expected in several waves. Temperatures will drop due to the wet spell but will still be higher than normal for mid-February. According to Kiderül.hu, Monday heralds mostly cloudy skies, with rain showers peppering various locales and a chance of thunderstorms across the Great Hungarian Plain. Expect strong, occasionally gusty winds veering initially from southeast and then from northwest. Temperatures will be between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius at dawn and between 9 and 17 degrees Celsius in the early afternoon. The current forecast predicts a return of snow and minus temperatures around 15 February (with a 1-2 day difference between the two dates).
Record-high warm weather in Hungary
The temperature rose above 20 degrees Celsius for the first time this year on Tuesday, weather service HungaroMet said on Facebook.
South-westerly winds resulted in milder weather than usual at this time of the year, and a measurement of 20.4 C was recorded at Sopronhorpács, in western Hungary. The last Feb 6 Hungarian record high was 21 C, recorded in Kiskunhalas in 2004.
At the same time, Budapest saw dawn record-high temperature of 10.3 C on Tuesday, HungaroMet said. The previous record was 8.4 C measured in 2004.

VIDEO: Storm Isha rages in UK, Wizz Air flight affected
A hurricane-force storm hit the United Kindgom on Sunday evening. It caused major traffic disruption across the island country. Several flights were only able to take off with significant delays, a huge number of flights were cancelled. The flight of Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air was also affected.
Isha arrives: Orange alert issued
The UK Met Office has issued the second highest, orange alert for almost the entire country: the Atlantic storm Isha has arrived, Economx reports. According to the report from the service on Sunday night, the strongest gusts of almost 150 kilometres per hour were recorded in the Snowdonia area of north Wales. However, winds of 90-120 kilometres per hour are also common in London and many other parts of the country.
Precautionary measures, no power due to the storm
In Scotland, the authorities have brought rail traffic to a complete halt from Sunday evening until Monday morning as a precautionary measure. In England and Wales, speed restrictions have been imposed on several sections of rail lines. More than 45,000 homes in Northern Ireland and 7,000 in England and Wales have lost power due to damage to the power lines.
According to The Guardian, rail services have been suspended since 7 PM on Sunday. Dozens of lines are closed due to fallen trees and flooding. One person was hit by falling debris after scaffolding came down in Belfast. The ambulance service attended to them at the scene.

Air traffic was disrupted mainly at airports in the north-west of England, Scotland and Ireland. At Dublin airport, 114 flights had been cancelled by Sunday evening, with many flights from the UK to Belfast diverted to other airports, Economx writes.
However, at Heathrow, the largest UK airport, traffic was steady despite the gale-force winds. There were no reports of flight cancellations until Sunday night. British Airways’ evening flight from Heathrow to Budapest took off after a one-hour delay. Hungarian low-cost carrier Wizz Air’s Budapest flight from Luton airport was also able to depart after a delay of more than two hours.

Temperatures in the north reached well below -10 degrees Celsius in the mornings. However, Storm Isha brought significant relief: highs of plus 10-14 degrees Celsius are forecast for this week.
According to The Guardian, Storm Isha is the ninth named storm that hit the UK since the season began in September.
Cold front to arrive in Hungary, snowfall and dangerous roads expected
Although the weather was milder on Thursday, another cold front will soon arrive in Hungary, bringing precipitation and dangerous roads.
“The cold front of Cyclone Irene will move over us from Thursday to Friday night, with significantly colder air behind it flooding the Carpathian Basin, causing temperatures to drop by several degrees. This temperature drop will not be as significant in the colder northern part of the country on Thursday, but compared to today’s noon temperatures, temperatures in the south may drop by 10-16 degrees Celsius by noon on Friday, and even by 17-18 degrees Celsius in places,” HungaroMet said.
From dawn, light snowfall is likely in several places, followed by snowfall. In the south and south-west of the country, 2-5 cm of snow is expected, with more in some places.
Due to the risk of sleet, orange alerts have been issued in several areas. The National Ambulance Service said it had been alerted to an outbreak of accidents in the capital on Wednesday. A similar situation is expected on Friday, with road users being asked to be more alert to reduce the number of accidents.

Spring to visit Hungary this week
The weather will be very different in the coming days compared to the first half of the week.
The Hungarian Meteorological Services (HungaroMet) said a cyclone will take snow to France and spring to Hungary this week. The ‘Irene’ will arrive on Wednesday, bringing strong winds, lots of precipitation and snow.
However, thanks to the cyclone, Hungary will get a subtropical warm front. As a result, spring will rule Hungary on Thursday. Furthermore, based on some forecasts, even heat records may break that day. The 1918 heat record of Kaposvár, for example, was 17 degrees on 18 January.

Snow and winter frost returns to Hungary from today!
The mild, spring-like weather has been here for several days, making us feel like Christmas happened in spring. However, Sunday is shaping up to be a big change: the back of the Mediterranean cyclone that will dominate the weekend weather starts to bring in cold Arctic air from the north-northeast.

The arrival of the freezing air mass could bring several dangerous weather phenomena. North-northeast winds will become gusty in the west and northeast, with gusts of up to 70-80 km/h.
In the West, snowfall will be followed by sleet and snowfall from Sunday morning. With the exception of the Alpokalja region, during the day, snowfall may occur in the Transdanubian region. Temperatures could drop by 8-10 degrees Celsius in a few hours.
As we bid farewell to spring in January, next week, the weather will be in line with the calendar, Időkép writes.

Record high low temperatures recorded in Budapest on Christmas Day
The National Meteorological Service recorded 6.6 degrees Celsius lows in Budapest on 25 December, the warmest ever recorded that day.
The previous Budapest record was 6.5 C, recorded in 1950. The highest temperature also broke the record: in Budapest Újpest, the temperature climbed to 13.9 degrees Celsius, two tenths above the previous record.
One day before Christmas Eve, PécsMa reported that a beautiful snow layer had formed on the higher parts of the Mecsek Hills. On the first day of Christmas, however, there was no sign of it: the holiday brought spring-like weather. According to data from the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ), the thermometer in Kémes in Baranya, for example, showed 18 degrees on Monday. That is about 12 degrees above the maximum temperature usual for this time of year.
