The best Hungarian confectioneries – Dining Guide TOP selection
Not sure where to try the sweetest Hungarian specialities?! Let’s see which are the best confectioneries in Hungary where gastronomic pleasure is guaranteed.
Budapest
Gerbeaud – Budapest
The 160-year-old Café Gerbeaud is an internationally known and respected hospitality venue where preservation of tradition and pursuit of innovation are perfectly combined. Accordingly, confectioners at Gerbeaud represent an innovative spirit which is also symbolised by its popular classic dishes that are served in the best possible form. Gerbeaud Budapest uses ingredients of the best quality, while also keeping pace with the latest technologies. Prices are tailored to tourists; still, the confectionery is constantly full of customers.
Auguszt Confectionery – Budapest
Elek Auguszt opened his first confectionary in 1870; therefore, the family has been actively developing and representing the Hungarian pastry arts for 148 years. The emblematic family business opened in 1957 at the Buda side. Joseph Auguszt – representing the fourth generation of the dynasty – is the personal guarantee of its classic quality. An innovative spirit and new trends are combined with family tradition. Delicacies are made from the best ingredients and can be enjoyed in a prestigious environment.
Dolcissima – Budapest
Dolcissima can also be called the “playground” of Davide Deligio. The Italian confectioner arrived from Bari ten years ago, having the experiences of a baker. Traditional southern Italian desserts are prepared in an open-view kitchen. “Canollo” and “sfogliatelle” are the most emblematic delicacies, but other cakes and ice creams are also available which are prepared with great professionalism. The full experience can be realised by a special Sicilian coffee.
Desszert.Neked – Budapest
The story began in a basement in Újlipótváros and ended up in a jewel-like, French-style shop in Paulay Ede street, which is still one of the best new-wave patisseries of the city. Despite the fact that the co-founder and creative pastry Péter Korponai no longer strengthens the team, it seems that knowledge was left behind, holding Desszert.Neked among the best ones.
Countryside
Mihályi® – Vác
The former Dessert Salon confectionery now bears the noble simplicity of the Mihályi® name. Its founder, László Mihályi, is a confectioner who worked and studied in several different countries – including Shanghai, Austria, Norway etc. This knowledge and experience were built into his own sweet-shop at Vác, where self-expression is perfectly realised.
As diningguide.hu describes, Mihályi® was chosen as the best patisserie in Hungary.
What László Mihályi represents is unique in Hungary; the unbroken success of its confectionery serves as the perfect proof. Hungarian classics, unusual implementations, French and Italian inspirations, high-quality raw materials – what else do we need?! Mihályi® was chosen as the winner of the Nespresso Confectionery of the Year Award in 2018.
Bergmann Confectionery – Balatonfüred
Bergmann Confectionery has a long history – the family business has been operating for 80 years, by which it has become one of the most famous confectionaries at the northern part of Lake Balaton. Its most emblematic cake is ‘krémes,’ which can be enjoyed on the comfortable summer terrace.
Desszertem – Miskolc
In Eastern Hungary, confectioneries could not keep up with the quality standards of restaurants. Therefore, opening a French (and modern Hungarian)-style dessert shop was a brave step; however, Zsuzsanna Borsos resolved it perfectly. In Desszertem, you can taste such specialities as cream buns and artichoke mille-feuille.
Harrer Confectionery – Sopron
The Austrian confectionery dynasty, Harrer, is a family business that has been operating for four generations, whose first store was opened in Sopron. Karl Harrer was one of the youngest master confectioners in Austria who attended competitions in Canada, Japan, and Singapore. In 1995, the first store was opened in Sopron, while a chocolate workshop has been operating since 2009, where chocolate-tastings are held. The Harrer represents all that its dreamed of: knowledge, experience, quality.
Solier – Gödöllő
In Solier patisserie, cakes and pies are made based on traditional recipes, from quality ingredients. Traditional homemade cakes are served in a modernised form; additionally, lighter, fruity desserts are also very popular that can be ordered in cake form or even as dessert menus.
Hundred-Year-Old Confectionery – Gyula
Gyula’s legendary pastry slowly celebrates its bicentennial anniversary as it was founded by confectioner András Salis in1840. Since 2004, the confectionery is operated by László Balogh and Confectionery Crafts, respecting the significance of its history. Besides high-quality patisserie cakes and ice-creams, Cadeau handmade bonbons and chocolates can also be tasted.
