The British Embassy is moving to Buda from the city centre
The British Embassy in Budapest is going to move from Harminchad street, District V to Füge street, District II, index.hu writes. The Embassy’s new building was home to the Dutch Embassy and was built 20 years ago based on Dutch plans. The Embassy of Netherlands moved to Kapás street last fall.
The British Embassy moved to Harminchad street in 1947, into a building that used to be home to Hazai Bank. The Embassy’s 25 years lease expired this year and wasn’t renewed.
The new building is significantly smaller than the previous one, but Theresa Bubbear, the Embassy’s spokesperson told HVG that only a quarter of the building was used and it was too expensive to maintain.
