Regarding the bográcsozás, cooking in cauldron is not unique to Hungary so I’m not sure why people would think it strange. In Irish folklore, a cauldron is where the leprechauns keep their treasure, in literature The Three Witches of Macbeth used a cauldron (Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble) and visit any camping sites pretty much anywhere the summer and you’ll see people using some form of cauldron.
Agree with the above comment. And, no mention of the variety of fruit soup he ate?? Meggyes leves, barracks levels, etc???
Are you sure that only in Hungary people blow their nose in public, do not drink icy water or sit on benches when it is cold? There is a lot of countries like that, not only Hungary.
Natalie – it is generally accepted that fruit soups originated in Scandinavia, known there as Blandad Bruktsoppe. It’s served in the winter.
