Szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu calls attention to the fact that the world’s most famous basketball show team is coming to Budapest to entertain the audience of the Papp László Budapest Sportaréna on June 2nd.
NBA’s partner team, the Harlem Globetrotters play more than 300 matches annually, 98% of which they usually win. This year marks the 90th anniversary of the club of fantastic players, thus, for this amazing jubilee they set up a world-tour, thanks to which they are coming to Hungary as well.
They were formed back in 1926 under the name Savoy Big Five, but soon after that the team changed its name to Globetrotters they added Harlem New York to the title in 1930 in order to spread the word about Harlem, the centre of black culture.
According to legends, the site reports, that was the time when they started to include humour in their games, for at one occasion the scoreboard showed 112:5 (for them) when they started to joke around on the court. The funny game won the audience too, so afterwards, every time they had really great scores they turned into jokers.
Aside from winning at basketball matches the Harlem Globetrotters are proud owners of a star on Hollywood Boulevard, which they gained for advertising, their television and film appearances. The team also has honorary members, including Bob Hope, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Whoopi Goldberg, Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II.
