Incredible Hungary – it was part of the EU tender, so they put a gate leading nowhere on the wall
Hungarians are some of the most resourceful people in the world, and this funny but also pathetic incident, unfortunately, supports this statement. Have you ever wondered what the most redundant construction element in the world is? You might have found what you were looking for.
In Szolnok, a residential park has received a subsidy from the European Union to modernise the buildings and to build a wall around the lot. There was one catch, however. In their tender, they included a gate that leads to the neighbouring park, but the residents later changed their minds and decided that they would not like to have a gate on that side, 444 reported.
Unfortunately, because the tender included a gate, they needed to comply with it, otherwise, they would have had to pay the money back.
The residents had a pretty great solution to their problem, but it might also be one of the most useless construction elements in Hungary, or maybe in the entire world.

One of the Hungarian opposition parties, the Hungarian Two Tailed Dog Party, has also pointed out the strange solution on their Facebook page. The party members have managed to meet with László Lits, the manager of NHSZ Szolnok Public Service Provider Non-profit Ltd. (NHSZ Szolnok Közszolgáltató Nonprofit Kft.), who told them that
the residents have repurposed the gate to be a padlock wall. This way, they could get some function out of the gate, 444 wrote.
The Hungarian Two Tailed Dog Party then played with the idea and installed two windows next to the gate, one on each side, and they also added a doormat to make a caricature out of the pathetic loophole caused by bureaucracy.

If you’re getting money from someone, which you did not earn, maybe you should follow the agreement you made with that source. This is not clever, it’s lame and half-assed. Having lived in a half dozen apartments in Hungary, I see this kind of lazy, half-assed solution too often. No pride in work or your agreements. Take the easy road, always.
I would hope the wit of the Hungarian Two Tailed Dog Party was focused on the embarrassing nature of this solution, rather than on the bureaucracy.
Why they didn’t make the proper gate but keep it locked all the time?
