Poll-leader Tisza Party submits nationwide candidate list for upcoming elections

The Tisza Party has officially submitted its nationwide candidate list to the National Election Office, finalising the lineup ahead of Hungary’s upcoming parliamentary elections. The list, which comprises 185 candidates, was handed in on Friday.

Top Tisza Party candidates announced

The first five spots on the ballot were previously disclosed: party leader and MEP Péter Magyar, opera singer Andrea Rost, Nyíregyháza Zoo director László Gajdos, Tisza Party vice president Ágnes Forsthoffer, and István Kapitány, head of the party’s economic and energy policy preparation team.

Other prominent figures securing winnable positions include party vice presidents Márk Radnai and Zoltán Tarr, foreign affairs lead Anita Orbán, healthcare expert Zsolt Hegedűs, social policy expert Kriszta Bódis, programme development leader Zoltán Tanács, former Chief of Staff Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, and actor Ervin Nagy.

The party has ensured a diverse representation, with around one-third of the candidates being women.

Notable entries and strategy

The top 30 candidates on the list feature a mix of politicians, professionals, and cultural figures. Among them are former Decathlon executive Gábor Pósfai, four-time Olympic fencing champion Krisztián Kulcsár, and social activist Csongor Kincse, known for highlighting Hungary’s struggling healthcare system.

Some well-known Tisza Party experts, such as agricultural specialist Szabolcs Bóna, deliberately requested to be excluded from the list to pursue a mandate in their individual constituencies. Bóna is running in a challenging district centred on Csorna (Győr-Moson-Sopron 3).

Party leader Péter Magyar previously stated that at least 10% of the winnable list spots would be reserved for Roma candidates.

List mechanics and parliamentary seats

The nationwide list plays a crucial role in Hungary’s mixed electoral system. Of the 199 parliamentary seats, 106 are won directly in individual constituencies, while 93 are filled from party lists. If a list MP resigns or a seat becomes vacant during the parliamentary term, the next eligible candidate on the party’s list assumes the position, making the complete 185-member roster strategically important.

The official submission deadline for nationwide lists is 16:00 on 7 March.
