Train to the beach: Adria InterCity returns for summer 2025 – Travel from Hungary to the Adriatic

Change language:

Hungary’s beloved summer night train to the Croatian coast is back! From 19 June to 13 September 2025, the Adria InterCity once again offers a comfortable and scenic way to reach Split from Budapest—no driving, no traffic, no parking stress.

Scenic, comfortable, and stress-free

Recognised as one of Europe’s best night train experiences, the Adria InterCity carried more than 13,000 passengers last year, MÁV reports. The route winds through southern Hungary, alongside Lake Balaton, across the Dinaric Alps, and arrives at the Adriatic Sea by morning. It’s a smooth journey where passengers can fall asleep to the scent of pine forests and wake up to the sight of the sea.

The train departs from Budapest’s Keleti railway station at 6:45 PM, arriving in Split the next morning at 9:39 AM. Return trips leave Split at 5:43 PM, reaching Budapest by 9:35 AM the next day.

Flexible dates and affordable options

In June, the Adria InterCity service runs twice weekly (Tuesdays and Thursdays). During the July–August peak season, it operates every second day from Budapest (on even dates) and from Split (on odd dates, excluding the 1st of each month).

Ticket prices start at:

  • EUR 47 for a seat
  • EUR 49 for a couchette bed

Bookings are now open at international ticket offices or via the MÁV online ticket platform (note: not available through the MÁV app).
