Longer travel times on trains and buses in Hungary, power outages reported in several counties

Due to winter road conditions and possible issues with railway points, longer travel times are expected nationwide on Saturday on both Volán buses and train services, with cancellations also likely, the MÁV Group announced on its website.
Longer travel times, stops skipped
According to the statement, delays and cancelled Volán bus services should be expected, and in some settlements, certain stops may be skipped.
With a few exceptions, almost all settlements remain accessible by bus. In Baranya County, services are not calling at Dinnyeberki, Magyarsarlós, Vajszló or Kórós; in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, Csenyéte, Kánó and Imola are affected; in Komárom-Esztergom County, Tagyospuszta is not served; while in Somogy County, buses are not stopping in Gadány.
Rail services are also operating with longer journey times and occasional cancellations due to winter weather, with point failures further complicating traffic in some areas.

Buses replace trains
Replacement buses are running again on Saturday instead of S74 train services. At Almásfüzitő, S10 trains continue to pass through without stopping; therefore, station replacement buses are operating from Almásfüzitő-Felső. On the Veresegyház line, S71 trains are running only as far as Rákospalota–Újpest, while G71 services have been cancelled.
In Transdanubia, longer travel times are expected on the Gyékényes–Nagykanizsa section, as trains are temporarily not operating between Őrtilos and Murakeresztúr due to fallen trees.
Train tickets are valid on all Volán bus services nationwide, and until further notice, bus tickets are also being accepted on MÁV train services.
No fresh snow cover, motorways salted
According to Útinform’s Saturday morning update, most of the country is currently precipitation-free, and no fresh snow cover has been reported. Fog may still hamper traffic in isolated areas, mainly around Veszprém, along the southern border, and sporadically in counties of the Southern Great Plain.
Motorways and main roads are generally wet with salt treatment, while secondary roads may be slushy. Snow-covered surfaces may still occur, especially in southern Transdanubia and near the eastern border, particularly in Csongrád-Csanád County.

Disaster management: power outages reported in 5 counties
Power supply disruptions have been reported in five counties, while waste collection was also affected in several settlements on Friday, Hungary’s disaster management authority announced on Saturday.
According to the summary, between Friday and 4 AM on Saturday, power outages affected a total of 20 settlements across Békés, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Nógrád, Somogy and Veszprém counties, impacting 5,342 consumer connection points. Water supply was temporarily suspended in Tolna County, in the settlement of Bogyiszló, affecting 720 households.
Across the country, 424 members of professional and municipal fire brigades, as well as volunteer fire associations and rescue organisations, responded to 120 firefighting and technical rescue incidents using 143 vehicles and pieces of equipment.
Snowy and cold weather continued to cause disruptions in both rail and road traffic on Friday, although no settlements were cut off. Firefighters carried out technical rescues at numerous accident sites, typically assisting vehicles that had skidded off the road, overturned into ditches, or collided with one another, and helping those involved.
Snowfall and snow showers may still occur
The authority also warned that from Saturday evening, scattered snowfall and snow showers may occur in connection with an incoming cold front. By Saturday morning, temperatures in parts of the Northern Hungarian Mountains could once again drop below minus 15 degrees Celsius.
From Saturday evening onwards, northerly winds are expected to strengthen across northeastern counties and much of Transdanubia, potentially causing drifting snow.
