True sci-fi: the luckiest ones can enter one of Budapest’s most extraordinary buildings
The Budapest Waterworks is reopening the public favorite Gruber József reservoir on Gellért Hill for a few days. In honor of World Water Day, they plan to hold open days again this year to show off the two basins, each capable of storing 40,000 cubic meters of water.
A visit to the Gruber József reservoir will make you feel as if you are not in the present
“You could call it futuristic, but it’s not (just) the future: the architecturally stunning basins of the Gruber József reservoir have been supplying drinking water to households in Budapest from inside the Gellért Hill for more than four decades. Did you know, for example, that the football pitch pools are 10 meters high, and 106 columns support their slabs poured on-site? And that’s not all!”
– writes the Waterworks on their social media page.
More fascinating figures and curiosities await visitors between March 21 and 24, 2024, but due to high interest, spots sold out quickly, the Waterworks said.
