Date of Trump’s Budapest visit leaked: he may come to help PM Orbán win the elections

President Trump, the bold US leader openly backing Viktor Orbán and his political crew, could swoop into Budapest just weeks before Hungary’s parliamentary elections, called for 12 April by the republic’s president. And could Putin drop by too, right before polling day?

Putin for Budapest?

Viktor Orbán stands out as one of the rare politicians whose election win has both the rival US and Russian presidents cheering from the sidelines. After Trump and Putin’s Alaska summit, whispers even surfaced of sealing a Ukraine peace deal in Budapest. That idea quickly fizzled when Russia’s demands proved a non-starter for Ukraine.

Talks grind on, but the two presidents visiting Budapest—Ukraine deal or not—have long been on the cards. Before Russia’s full-scale Ukraine invasion, Putin and Orbán met yearly in Budapest; since 2022, it’s been Moscow only, with their latest huddle last November. At his January international press briefing, Orbán made it clear: Putin’s visit isn’t timely, as they covered everything in Moscow.

“The most important thing now is to achieve peace at last. One thing is certain: it won’t depend on us Hungarians. Let’s get to work!”, Orbán said after the Alaska summit. Nothing followed. Photo: Orbán Viktor / Facebook

Trump’s arrival is imminent

Not so with Trump. The US president eyeing a takeover of Greenland from NATO ally Denmark could land in Budapest within months, turbocharging Orbán’s campaign sprint. And boy, does Orbán need it. Medián’s latest poll shows Péter Magyar and the Tisza Party with a rock-solid lead. Political analyst Gábor Török warned that if the numbers hold, Tisza’s edge is unbeatable. Non-government polls have had Tisza out front since November 2024.

Budapest hosts the CPAC—the US conservative powerhouse gathering—for the fifth time in 2026. It’s a magnet for aligned European and American leaders, past and present. Staging it costs a fortune, but Orbán’s governments always splash out on A-list guests. Trump got invites yearly but sent video messages—until perhaps this year.

On 21 March, he might finally show up in person. Miklós Szánthó, head of the Centre for Fundamental Rights and CPAC mastermind, wouldn’t confirm or deny Blikk’s scoop.

How many US presidents have visited Hungary?

Just three sitting US presidents have set foot in Hungary: George H.W. Bush in 1989, Bill Clinton in 1994, and George W. Bush in 2006 for the 1950 Revolution’s 50th anniversary. Lesser-known gem: back in 1910, ex-President Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt—fresh from his second term—spent days touring Hungary, then part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

  1. if the EU intervine in elections Hungarians get mad, but if the USA do it, they are welcoming it. i know, crazy!

    • And do you want to know why it is this way, Dear Jose?

Because when the EU intervenes they steal billions of Hungarian Forints from the Hungarian taxpayer.

And when the US. Government intervenes? : they bring celebrities bearing large cash gifts.

I know it sounds crazy, Dear Jose, but, maybe the Hungarians, outside of Budapest, are just smart enough to have figured out what the better deal is…

      • @Mouton – facts and data, shall we? Hungarians, both in the countryside and the cities and towns, deserve honest debate, transparent financing, and respect for our democratic institutions. Let me break this down:

Hungary has been a net beneficiary of EU funds since we joined. Much of our infrastructure, regional development, support for farmers, and local projects is at least partly financed by EU funds.

So let’s be clear – the EU is not stealing from Hungary and the countryside is actually a major beneficiary. We can debate bureaucracy, corruption, or political conditions – however tarring the EU and letting own Politicians government off the hook for how those funds are (mis)used is downright wrong.

This US coming to our Politicians rescue with celebrities and muchas dollar sounds attractive, however I always thought that sovereignty was so pivotal? Foreign cash and influence in our elections should be treated with caution, wherever it originates. Reducing the choice to who is willing to pay us more is an insult to our intelligence and responsibility as citizens. This is not some deal to be made. I believe Mr. Trump is also floating throwing cash at some 39000 Greenlanders to part with their sovereignty, who are duly horrified at the prospect. “The American Way”?

        • ‘Hungarians, both in the countryside and the cities and towns, deserve honest debate, transparent financing, and respect for our democratic institutions.’

          I agree, Dear Norbert.

All citizens of all countries deserve to be treated well, and, of course, to have these things.

One question, though : who has these things?

We do not have these things in my country; it the very country that advertises itself as ‘The Gold Standard’ of these things you mention.

          • “So let’s be clear – the EU is not stealing from Hungary and the countryside is actually a major beneficiary.

If that is true it is only true because Orbán Viktor has prevented it, or limited it.

However, any candidate other than Orbán Viktor or Toroczkai László is the prime minister of your country, you the EU will be stealing from your country – not just money, but, it’s culture, traditions, and race.

The same thing will happen to you that has happened to my people.

        • “This US coming to our Politicians rescue with celebrities and much as dollar sounds attractive, however I always thought that sovereignty was so pivotal?”

And, yet – you are planning to vote for Tisza Party; they who will hand over what limited sovereignty has left to the unelected polliticians in Bruxelles who govern for the benefits of the bankers and international companies.

You are not in favour of Hungarian sovereignty.

I, however, am in favour of Southern Sovereignty over Southern lands, but, I am under no illusions – we are not sovereign, nor is the country which currently occupies my country.

As an old man I have come to realize that, though some people, for a limited amount of time, assert their sovereignty, though, in the end, most sovereignty is sold, bit by bit, by the politicians who are elected by those who expect them to hold hold it.

        • ”Foreign cash and influence in our elections should be treated with caution, wherever it originates. Reducing the choice to who is willing to pay us more is an insult to our intelligence and responsibility as citizens.’

I agree, but, the reality is otherwise.

Hungary is the eye of the storm between the EU, China, Russia, the disUnited States of America, and the Western Elite; the latter who informs Hungarians how to think through social media and the statistics that you, Dear Norbert, always faithfully report, but, which are not faithful statistics, but, rather, numbers invented to manipulate citizens of White Gentile countries to be passive.

You are faithful, Dear Norbert, but, the statistics you trust are compiled by those who are not at all trustworthy.

    • So you are telling me, the EU sanctioning Hungary in election year is not election interference, but wisiting a conference that’s being hosted for many years now is?

Up is down, and the fire if freezing in your world, it seems.

  2. I don’t see how it would help the Viktator, the Orange conman is one of the most hated pedo’s in the world.

  3. Mouton, this position of having NO respect to Law, the findings of the Orban led Fidesz Government breaking of Laws being a member country of the European Union as is “on paper” Hungary.
Victor Mihaly. Orban and his Fidesz Government – Hungary have been found “of guilt” by the Courts of Justice of the European Union.
Victor Mihaly. Orban and his Fidesz Government – lied, fabricated, abused as a member country of the European Union being “caught out” in wrongfulness, the use of Euro’s provided to Hungary for “applied” reason(s) but un-lawfully mis-appropriated used for “other” purpose’s – the granted FUNDS.
Are not Victor Mihaly. Orban and his Fidesz Government “akin” to the likes of Bank ROBBERS ///
    D. J. Trump – a Presidency in growing CHAOS dismissive of trust & respect internal mounting destabilization in-side America and the “hurricane” – the on-going global decline of respect and trust of the United States of America.
If he “lands” on Hungarian land – D. J. Trump for his CHAOS of Presidency, the delivered place of Hungary in the European Union being under Hungary’s leadership / Prime Ministership of Victor Mihaly. Orban – the present European picture muchly still focused on Russia’s invasion of the Ukraine, the gargantuan FAILINGS of D. J. Trump broken promises of his “second coming” to the Oval Office to end the Russian invasion of the Ukraine – the names Trump and Orban will “submerge” deeper in what is factually known and accepted these (2) two individuals are not Peacemakers that have “agendas” to divide, separate, split open Europe and CRUSH – the European Union and NATO.
Trump & Orban – the word DEMOCRACY – it’s maceration – the CREED of the named (2) two.
The “Grapes of Wrath” – may they for HOPE of Peace in Europe – for Global Peace may they rein upon the “named” two, who are removed of being Peacemakers.

    • @Grapes of Wrath…

You have given a good, interesting, and substantial comment.

      I really appreciate that.

The first comment I will make is, no, I do not regard your prime minister as any kind kin to the Rothschild Banking family, and their allied companies – Blackrock, State-street, Vanguard, Pfizer etc, etc ….

      Why not?

Because, whatever your prime minister’s deficiencies are, he does not try to organize the replacement of White Peoples in our respective nations, nor does he funds those who fund the NGOs to create wars, like the current attempt to destroy Russia in the Ukraine.

I do not see your prime minister as a warmonger, which is precisely what the Rothschild family have done since Charles I of England threw them out of England, and Cromwell let them back in.

I also do not see your prime minister as complicit in the homosexualification of anybody, much less whole nations.

I do not see your prime minister as funding universities to train young White people to be anti-Whites.

I do not see your prime minister as trying to gradually eradicate Christianity.

Really, I could go on, but it is fatiguing.

The great Hungarian historian, Drabik Jánós, wrote extensively about this for several decades, and when he died, recently, he was properly eulogized by the peerless Hungarian patriot Toroczkai László.

Another great Hungarian historian, Zsuzsanna Borvendég has spoken extensively on this subject, and, in part, I have learned your language listening to her. She is a great patriot and a very brave woman.

Again, thank you for the tenour and strength of your comment.

  4. If you are going to invite scumbags like Trump and war criminal Putin why not also have Fidesz invite their Iranian friends who they pledge their “mutual respect” to. Szijjarto was meeting with the Iranian foreign minister last September. Hungary even participated at the “Iran Expo” in 2025. Invite them to take a break from killing their own people and come to meet close friends in Budapest.

  5. Trump is Orban on steroids. The results are in the news everyday. What Hungarian would want to be like the U.S. now? Oh, the rich ones.

  6. Of course, looks like Washington and Moscow are trying to save Orban from electoral defeat.
    NO KINGS IN HUNGARY!

    • “Of course, looks like Washington and Moscow are trying to save Orbán from electoral defeat.”

Not just Washington and Moscow, Dear Volodymir, but, Beijing, Rome, Praha, Ankara, Beograd, and Jerusalem, as well.

    • Any promotion by Trump of a party where I am in Canada would be the kiss of death for its’ prospects. He stayed completely out of our 2025 election. The MAGAtt wing of our Conservative Party was left twisting in the wind. Putin would be arrested upon arrival under his ICC warrant for war crimes.

      • The Yukon, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and, hard to believe, even Les Quebecois, are headed towards being the 51-57th states of the disUnited States.

As bad as things are down here, things have got to be really bad up yonder.

By 2028 Canada will likely just be Ontario, New Brunswick, and Newfoundland.

  7. Ah, the magnificent Mouton. He can deftly argue that Hungarians should welcome a foreign president’s election interference if it comes with “celebrities bearing large cash gifts,” while still managing to sound like a defender of national sovereignty in the next breath. His logic is so pliable it could wrap around any contradiction—a true virtuoso of cynical deal-making. His moral compass points directly towards whatever serves his chosen strongmen, a perfect bot for the age of transactional politics

    😂

shame on Toroczkai László & Mi Hazánk party to make such a stupid bot!
Really, this is their way to win in the upcoming election?

    • How nice.
The EU sanctioning Hungary for no reason, like not accepting migrants, is not election interference.

Visiting an annual conference, that’s running for more then 5 years is election interference.

War is peace! Ignorance is strength!
