FM Szijjártó praised Türkiye for their peace efforts

Before US President Donald Trump entered office, Türkiye had been the only country that acted successfully as a mediator between the sides involved in the Ukraine war, the Hungarian foreign minister said in Ankara on Friday.
The ministry cited Péter Szijjártó telling a joint press conference with Hakan Fidan, his Turkish counterpart, that Hungary and Türkiye had identical security interests, and both countries had been among “the loudest” members in the pro-peace camp over the past three years.
“Over the past three years, Türkiye and Hungary consistently, loudly and openly stood up for the need for peace in Ukraine, urging a ceasefire and peace talks all along,” he said. “Those Europeans that currently talk about a ceasefire used to keep us under incredible attack in international organisations and international politics for three years. Those Europeans that currently talk about a ceasefire used to consider that word as forbidden for three years,” he added.

Orbán cabinet supports Russia-US talks
The foreign minister expressed high appreciation for Türkiye having been the only country before Trump entered office that had been able to be successful in mediation between the warring sides in Ukraine. And we believe there is now best hope for peace in Ukraine, and we therefore support Russia-US talks by all possible means, wishing that the yield success,” he said. “We expect the pro-war politicians in Brussels not to hinder the success of peace talks,” Szijjártó added.
“We hope that further US-Russia talks planned for next week will be successful because we Hungarians learnt from our own history that when Americans and Russians are able to maintain good, civilised relations, it is better for us Hungarians and also from the point of view of global security,” he said.
