VIDEOS: French woman assaulted by teenage girls in Budapest, pedestrian killed at downtown crosswalk

Two shocking videos have caused outrage on the Hungarian internet. In the first, three teenage girls can be seen robbing and beating a French woman on Andrássy Street in Budapest. In the second, a drunk driver fatally runs down a woman at a crosswalk in front of ELTE University’s Faculty of Philosophy.

The French woman begged for her phone

According to HVG, the public prosecutor of the 1st and 12th districts raised charges against a group of teenage girls who robbed and beat a French woman in the summer of 2023. The 12, 13 and 15-year-old girls followed a rehearsed scheme. The robbery was started by the youngest. She stepped near the French woman, grabbed her umbrella and tried to push her away. That is when the others joined the scuffle, and the 15-year-old girl pushed her to the ground. Then they took her purse and phone.

The French woman ran after them and begged for her phone in English. The oldest girl finally threw the device on the ground. The police investigation discovered that she had been rude before, provoked other people, acted violently, stole things and rampaged.

The public prosecutor initiated their correctional facility education. The 12-year-old girl declared her guilt on the preparatory court session and waived her right to a trial. She was sentenced to three years in a correctional facility. The others refused that so the court trial continues.

Woman killed at a downtown crosswalk

A woman tried to cross a crosswalk in Budapest’s downtown, close to the ELTE University Faculty of Philosophy. The lamp had switched to red for the drivers when the woman stepped down on the crosswalk, but a drunk driver did not realise that and ran her over. She was dead immediately. Only his passenger reacted quickly and pulled up the handbrake, but it was too late. The doctors could not save the woman’s life, Blikk wrote.

Interestingly, her daughter waited for Hajnalka on the other side of the street. Thankfully, she could not see the tragedy because the car hid her mother from her sight. She learned about the death of her mother from the ambulance medic.

The driver of the car was drunk, but the accident was also the fault of his passenger, who rented the car and allowed him to drive. The event happened in 2022, but the court procedure is not over yet. The public prosecutor wants the perpetrator to get 7 years behind bars and his friend to get 2 years and 6 months. The court has not decided yet.
