Another iconic restaurant closes its doors in Budapest
Csalogány26, one of Budapest’s favourite restaurants, is closing. The place shared the sad news on their Facebook page.
It is not the first time a restaurant has to meet such a sad end. In September, Kárpátia Restaurant closed down, and just a few days ago, Olimpia said goodbye to us as well.
Just like its name suggests, Csalogány26 was located between Batthyány Square and Széll Kálmán Square, at 26 Csalogány Street. It was a small, family-friendly restaurant. The tables were close to each other, and it had the feeling of a retro dining place.
As Magyar Konyha wrote, the coronavirus and its aftermath played a big part in the decision. The restaurant was extremely popular because it offered fine dining at a very affordable price. Even though coffee, wine, soft drinks, and the service fee could raise the price, the basic price was always quite modest.
What guests also loved about Csalogány26 was its structure. The menu was not too long, but there were always a variety of starters, main courses, and desserts, each of which was reinvented daily. Those who wanted more out of a day’s meal could also order tasting menus.
According to Magyar Konyha, finding a new direction has been a recurring theme in the life of the kitchen for a while now. Balázs Pethő, the owner of Csalogány26, is reportedly planning to continue to live his dreams in the village of Csákberény. There, he wants to take advantage of the growing touristic potential of the area in a modern but country-style restaurant.
