Jobbik accuses Rogán of ‘lying’ about residency bonds
Budapest (MTI) – Opposition Jobbik lawmaker György Szilágyi said on Thursday that cabinet office chief Antal Rogán had wrongly stated that immigrants buying residency bonds issued by the Hungarian government are only granted a five-year residency permit.
Individuals investing in residency bonds will receive residency permits “qualifying as permanent”, Szilágyi said, commenting on Rogán’s Tuesday night interview to commercial broadcaster ATV.
The residency permits in question would only be withdrawn in exceptional cases, such as if the applicant commits a crime, Szilágyi said, adding that the applicants’ family members would also be granted residency permits as part of family reunification.
Contrary to Rogán’s statement, bond scheme participants are not required to buy a flat in Hungary either, Szilágyi said.
