No. of Hungarians moving to Germany increases rapidly
The number of foreign nationals continues to increase in Germany year by year. Based on statistics from the end of last year, the No. of Hungarians living in Germany is increasing rapidly as well, with more than 200,000 Hungarians living there.
A foreign national is any person who is not a national of the country in which he or she is residing or temporarily sojourning.
More and more people decide to move to Germany each year. 24.hu reports that the number of foreign nationals in Germany almost reached 11,000,000 according to statistics by Destatis. Most of these people are nationals of other member states of the European Union.
Altogether, there are approximately 83,044,000 people living in Germany. The number of foreign nationals in Germany increased by 2.7% (by 291,515 people) from 2017 to 2018.
According to Destatis’s statistics, 10,915,455 non-German citizens were registered in Germany on 31 December 2018. This means that 13% of Germany’s population is foreign nationals.
Out of this roughly 11 million people, 7.636 million people are from European countries, and 6.735 million out of them are from other EU member states or soon-to-be EU member states.
The number of Hungarian citizens living in Germany increased as well: 212,360 Hungarians were registered at the end of last year, which is 5,335 more than in 2017.
If we look at the numbers according to nationalities, Hungary is in 13th place. Turkey is the first with 1.476 million Turkish people living in Germany. Turkey is followed by Poland (860,000 people).
More people seem to move to Germany to work from third countries (outside the EU) too; most of them come from India (12%), China (9%), and Bosnia and Herzegovina (8%). At the end of last year, 266,000 people were registered from third countries with work visas, which is 20% more than in 2017.
