The ultimate Hungarian destination to enjoy the snow

Change language:
According to szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu, Kőszeg is not the first settlement that comes to our mind when thinking about winter and snow in Hungary. However, this has to change since most of Hungary’s “snowy records” are connected to this beautiful small town 🙂
Kőszeg’s climate is subalpine, which means that it is cold and wet. Winters are snowy, while summers are rainy. Based on statistics, the average precipitation/year rate (807 mm) is the highest there.

It is also a recorder regarding the snow-cover, the most considerable thickness reached 151 centimetres in 1947. Moreover, the snow is quite enduring there; it lasts for 50-60 days depending on the altitude. However, global warming and changing weather conditions do not save the region.
Still, the city offers a beautiful environment for winter walks, excursions, sleighing and snowball fights. The snowy Kőszeg looks like a scene from a fairy-tale.
The zigzag streets of the city centre, the small squares and the old buildings look as if they were part of a gingerbread composition.
Visiting the neighbouring regions, like the cellars of Cák, the village of Velem, Írottkő and little Austrian communities, is also recommended.
Moreover, you do not have to worry about being cold, because there are lovely restaurants, pubs waiting for tired tourists on every corner. Trying traditional Hungarian dishes is almost a must there 😉

Please stop using the term Global Warmng. It is scientifically incorect, misleading and out dated.
The proper tern is “Global Climate Change . Thanks E
