Ultra-marathon runners to cover 1,300 km pilgrimage route
Budapest, June 17 (MTI) – Hungarian ultra-marathon runners Tibor Frank and Bela Veress are expected to cover the 1,300-kilometre Virgin Mary’s Road, connecting two Catholic pilgrimage sites, in 23 days, the Mary’s Road Association told MTI.
The athletes are set to start out from Mariazell, Austria, on Sunday morning and arrive in central Romania’s Sumuleu Ciuc (Csiksomlyo) on June 10. The runners will be joined by 12 cyclists.
They will cover at least 42 kilometres but not more than 79 kilometres a day, without having any day for rest.
In Mariazell, the athletes will be seen off for the pilgrimage by Greek Catholic Metropolitan Fulop Kocsis. The group will be met and blessed by Cardinal Peter Erdo in Budapest.
