Warning: frost and snow returns to Hungary

The National Meteorological Service (OMSZ) is again warning of gusty winds and dust storms. Időkép added that frost and snow would return next week in Hungary. Be careful out there!

The meteorological service said on its Facebook page on Friday that strong gale-force winds are again expected over a large area in Hungary. After the precipitation has passed, the strongest wind gusts are expected, especially in the northern part of the Transdanubian region.

They added that on Monday, a gradual increase in winds is expected from the morning hours until mid-morning. By early afternoon, the northwest wind will reach its maximum, Index writes.

Gale-force winds of more than 60 km/h are likely over large areas, but gusts of 70-80 km/h should be expected even in flat areas. Higher wind speeds should be expected in mountainous areas, where gusts of up to 90-100 km/h may be expected.

From the evening hours, winds will moderate slightly, but will still be strong over a large area. Winds are expected to ease on Tuesday, but strong gusty winds can still be expected. However, Tuesday dawn will be freezing in most parts of Hungary, Időkép said. In areas protected from winds, the temperature may go below -5 degrees. Peaks will be around 4-10 °C. Wednesday will be frosty in Hungary, and even snowstorms and snowy rains may occur. Western winds will remain strong. But, in the afternoon, we should expect 6-15 degrees.

They warned that although the winds will be preceded by precipitation, there may be areas where there is little or no precipitation, so localised dust storms may develop again. For this reason, drivers are asked to always drive according to traffic, weather and visibility conditions!
