Warning: Scorching heat, second-level warning in Hungary
Due to extremely high daily mean temperatures, the National Meteorological Service has issued a second-level (orange) warning for Thursday for the counties below in Hungary.
The meteorological service has issued a second-level/orange warning for Thursday for the counties of Transdanubia, and Pest, Bács-Kiskun and Csongrád-Csanád counties due to high daily mean temperatures. The daily mean temperature in those areas could be above 27 degrees Celsius.
In Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Hajdú-Bihar and Békés counties, a first-level warning is in effect, with daily mean temperatures above 25 degrees Celsius, hvg.hu reports.
In a warning sent to the Hungarian News Agency (MTI), the National Meteorological Service said that daytime temperatures are expected to increase on Thursday. Mean temperatures are expected to rise above 27 degrees Celsius in the Transdanubian region and the Danube-Tisza area.
In the central and south-eastern parts of the Great Plain (Alföld), average temperatures are expected to be around 25 degrees Celsius. The highest daytime temperatures on Thursday will be between 31 and 38 degrees Celsius.
They added that the atmosphere will remain unstable on Thursday, with thunderstorms expected mainly in the east, accompanied by downpours, hail and gusty winds. On Thursday, thunderstorms may drift into the Alpokalja region, where gusty winds may be the main accompanying phenomenon.
Due to thunderstorms, a first-level warning is in effect for the counties of Vas, Zala, Nógrád, Heves, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, Hajdú-Bihar, Békés and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg. A first-level warning for cloudbursts has been issued for the counties of Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg.
A second-level (orange) warning has been issued for the whole country for Friday due to the incoming cold front, as more severe thunderstorms are expected.
On Saturday, there will be plenty of sunshine and few clouds in the west. In the east, clouds will become more intense, with a higher chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mainly in the Transdanubian and Zemplén regions, north and northwest winds will be strong, and gusty winds may occur around thunderstorms. The minimum temperature will be between 16 and 21 degrees Celsius, the maximum between 25 and 31 degrees Celsius.
