What is the average Hungarian like?
Recently, an advertisement has created a huge echo. The advertisement questions what “typical Hungarian” may actually mean nowadays. I would not want to step on this sensitive spot, and we all know that the so-called ’average person’ does not exist as such, but there are recent statistics, and from many different aspects we can tell what the typical Hungarian like is. Let’s jump straight in.
As the saying goes, everyone is the same inside out. Our heart is beating – 54% of the death of women is caused by circulatory disease, while 44% men die due to the same cause – the blood is flowing in our veins – approximately 4-5 L in women and 5-6 L in men – our chest rises as we breathe. We all need oxygen, water, and nourishment in order to survive regardless that we are man, woman, young or adult.

In order for our body to work properly, men and women need different nutrients. But aside from primary and secondary gender traits what are we different in? Let us see some examples. The life expectancy of women 79, while for men it is 72. Women will be healthy until 70, while this data for men is much less, 64. The main reason for this huge difference could be that women live more healthily and pay more attention to their bodies than men.
Among women, there are much less who are overweight – the average weight for women is 69 Kg and for men it is 83 Kg and the height is 164 Cm compared to men’s 176 Cm –, women also eat fruits and vegetables more often – 72% eat it every day – and they drink more liquids – 2.6 L, 70% of which is water. They also consume less harmful consumables such as cigarettes and alcohol and sodas – men drink 20.4 L of alcoholic drinks a year, women only drink 7 L, 20% of men drink sodas daily and 34% of men are smoking compared to only 25% of women. Despite this, women are less likely to be satisfied with their state of health, but, a blessing in disguise, this is probably the reason they go to screenings more often – 60% of them participated in blood sugar screening, compared to 50% of men and 57% of women have done cholesterol screening.
Women marry at a younger age – 29.7 compared to 32.5 –, yet the number of those who graduated are higher (53.4%) than among men (46.6%). Bad news though, as the average income of men seems to be higher – 800 € compared to 600 €.

So, it is no question why it is important to pay more attention to our health. For every 100,000 residents, 5056 years are wasted, this means that people, due to their bad health, die earlier than the average life expectancy.
