Express covid testing is something that will be in vogue for some more time. And, likely, the entire system will not become fully obsolete since new threats arise on and off.

The rationale behind fast now tests is to provide the required degree of flexibility when it comes to the place and time of testing by slightly compromising the accuracy and reliability. Yet, express tests are as prevalent as PCR or RT-PCR, so let’s learn more about them. 

What Express Tests Are and How do They Different from PCR?

Quick Results COVID-19 tests are represented in two types: antibody testing and antigen testing. 

  • Antigen testing. The type that is considered a “light” version of PCR. It implies taking a nasal swab (some biological specimens from the nose) and testing for the genetic material of coronavirus. It detects whether the person is sick for COVID-19 or they weren’t. 
  • Antibody testing. This type is more of a screening testing rather than a diagnostic. It implies taking a blood sample and testing it for the presence of formed antibodies to coronavirus. It detects whether the person was sick for COVID-19 recently or they weren’t.

Both have some similarities in-between. Antigen and antibody are rapid tests, meaning they take as little as 15-60 minutes to complete. Both can be done without the involvement of a nursing specialist, just by using a test kit and the instructions attached.
