Which is the Best University in Hungary?

Semmelweis University leads the new academic ranking of HVG, ahead of Eötvös Loránd University, which used to rule the list for many years. Considering faculties; medicine, humanities, and science are the leaders. The ranking of HVG is released, containing more than forty departments of ten training areas – as reported by eduline.hu.

According to the student- and teaching excellence, the following universities are at the head of the ranking: Semmelweis University, Eötvös Loránd University, the University of Szeged, the University of Pécs, and Pázmány Péter Catholic University.

During the compilation of the overall ranking, the number of applicants, the point average of the admitted, the average of the students admitted with B2 or C1 level language exams, the number of those who achieved prominent places in high school academic contests, the number and proportion of teachers having a scientific degree, the number of students per teachers, and the percentage of teachers with MTA titles were taken into account.

There are no major changes in the student ranking, the advantages of the leading universities have been further strengthened. In 2014, a thousand more students wanted to be admitted to ELTE and to the Corvinus University of Budapest than ever before; but the increase was about 500-800 students at BME, the University of Szeged, and Semmelweis as well.

The rearrangement was bigger at the teaching ranking. ”The indicators concerning the teachers have strikingly improved at Semmelweis University and at the University of Pécs. At the Faculty of Medicine of Semmelweis University, the number of qualified teachers increased by 148 people. It is mainly the consequence of the reorganization, which has also moved the faculty and the university as well to the top of the teaching rankings. Moreover, SE is the winner of the overall institutional ranking this year” – highlights the academic publication of HVG.

Eötvös Loránd University, after having ruled the list for years, is now ranked as second – though, the numbers of applicants and that of the teachers having a scientific degree are the highest here.
