With this document, you can travel for free in Budapest

There is one document with which you can travel for free in the Hungarian capital. Free travel for Ukrainian refugees on the services of the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has been extended until the end of the year.

The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has extended free travel on its public transport services for refugees from Ukraine until 31 December, napi.hu reports. As in the past, free travel is available on presentation of a Ukrainian travel document that can be used for identification purposes.

The free service was introduced on 4 March 2022.

Ukrainian passports are not valid for some routes

BKK also pointed out that documents entitling to free travel are not accepted on the 100E Airport Express bus, the funicular, the nostalgia lines and the boats, as well as on the HÉV and the “blue” buses of the surrounding area within Budapest.

BKK continues to work to make the situation of refugees from Ukraine as easy as possible, the company said. The company also asks its customers to provide assistance to refugees travelling on BKK services during their journeys, if necessary.

  1. The Ukrainians have my sympathies but, let’s be honest, huge swathes of the country are perfectly safe so there’s no reason a Ukrainian should be an international refugee. On a related note, it seems far more people don’t pay to use Budapest’s mass transit than do. Everyone and their dog seems to either be exempt from paying the fare or gets a discount. And then Mayo Greg whines about not having money…

  2. I hope Hungary doesn’t get the same trick as the rest of Europe.
Where it’s a lot of criminals migrating in the stream of refugees.
    It ruins the country.
