Wizz Air to launch domestic flights in this European country after several years!

After a long break, flights will once again connect Slovakia’s two largest cities, Bratislava and Košice. Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport announced Friday that Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air has won the public tender and will operate the route.

Domestic air travel resumes in Slovakia after years of pause

Air service between the two cities is set to resume this November after a six-year gap. Wizz Air will operate Airbus A321neo and A320 aircraft on the route, offering nine flights per week: one flight daily, with additional morning and afternoon departures on Mondays and Fridays, and an evening flight on Sundays, according to Ekonomika Pravda.

The schedule calls for departures from Bratislava at 6:30 AM and from Košice at 8:05 AM. The journey takes just 50 minutes, according to AIRportal.hu, offering a substantial time savings over the current five-hour train ride between the cities.

New flights launch at affordable prices

One-way tickets will start at EUR 19.99, with a maximum price set at EUR 75, or EUR 85 with checked luggage. Round-trip fares will start at EUR 39.98.

The Slovak government is subsidising the new service. Transport Minister Jozef Ráž announced that up to EUR 5.2 million has been earmarked for the route from October 2025 through March 2028.

Quicker travel times between East and West

The minister emphasised:

“Restoring the Bratislava–Košice flight significantly reduces travel time between the western and eastern parts of the country.”

Wizz Air recently announced that it will open a base at Bratislava’s M. R. Štefánik Airport with two Airbus A321neo aircraft. The airline plans to launch 12–13 new routes from the base, which could boost passenger traffic by as much as one million annually.
