You can now explore this Hungarian region through a virtual tour
Hungary’s history-filled region, Baranya, invites us on a captivating journey. The Treasures of Baranya project opens its simulated doors to twelve remarkable sites, allowing enthusiasts to embark on a virtual tour from the comfort of their homes.
The Treasures of Baranya project
According to Pécsaktuál.hu, Baranya is a region where the past seamlessly intertwines with the present. The Treasures of Baranya project introduces a new way to explore the county’s heritage. The initiative uses 360-degree camera footage and innovative technology to provide an immersive experience, offering a unique perspective on the historical treasures that define Baranya. More than 40 national treasures listed in the county’s Repository of Values are showcased through digital formats, making them accessible for virtual exploration. By utilising virtual reality glasses on the Baranya Kincsei (Baranya’s Treasures) website or downloadable content, individuals can delve into the county’s treasures without leaving their homes.
Beyond reality: a virtual journey through time
These virtual tours transcend traditional reality by incorporating a diverse range of multimedia elements. As participants stroll through these historic sites, they encounter film clips, pictures, audio, and video materials that bridge the gap between the past and the present. For instance, a walk through Király Street in Pécs not only reveals its current state but also provides glimpses of its tramway past, accompanied by captivating narratives from contemporary artists.
Unique perspectives and special shots
The virtual tours offer more than static views. Special shots provide perspectives not readily available in real life. Wonder how the TV Tower of Pécs would appear with an additional 30 meters? Or envision climbing to the top of the Zengő Lookout for a panoramic view that unveils a different facet of the landscape. These special shots add an extra layer of fascination to the virtual exploration.
Baranya county treasury: a virtual exhibition experiment
The Baranya Repository of Values initiated this project as an experimental virtual exhibition, unlocking enormous potential for a global audience. As we wrote before, the prevalence of virtual showcases increased during the pandemic. While thankfully, the pandemic isn’t the main reason for these exhibitions anymore, it served as a catalyst for the rise of virtual tours. They remain valuable not only as a response to the need for staying at home but also as an accessible way for individuals to explore and interact with content conveniently from their own spaces. Beyond catering to those with mobility restrictions, these virtual tours transport individuals worldwide to experience the county’s unique atmosphere.
