Attention: Budapest public transport schedule to change for Easter weekend and spring break

The Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) has announced several changes to the capital’s public transport schedules over the Easter long weekend and during the spring school break.

Special timetables for the holidays

  • On Thursday, 18 April, and from Tuesday to Friday, 22–25 April, services will follow a school holiday schedule.
  • On Good Friday (18 April), Easter Sunday (20 April) and Easter Monday (21 April), holiday or public holiday timetables will be in effect.
  • On Saturday, 19 April and Saturday, 26 April, Saturday timetables will apply, while Sunday, 27 April will follow the regular Sunday schedule.

Temporary road closures during Easter processions

BKK warns that temporary traffic restrictions will be in place due to Easter religious processions on Saturday evening (19 April) and Sunday morning (20 April), affecting various parts of the city. Short delays are expected on some BKK routes during these times.

Affected areas include:

  • Saturday evening: BatthyΓ‘ny Square, KΓ³s KΓ‘roly Square in Kispest, the intersection of KirΓ‘ly Street and NagymezΕ‘ Street in District VI, and VillΓ‘nyi Road between Fadrusz Street and Tas vezΓ©r Street in District XI.
  • Sunday morning: PasarΓ©ti Square, the KΓΆles Street junction on Szentendrei Road, PetΕ‘fi Street in District XVIII, and several streets in KelenvΓΆlgy, including DurΓ‘nci, AlabΓ‘strom, SzΓ©kelykapu, and KecskemΓ©ti JΓ³zsef Streets.

Lower embankment reopens for pedestrians and cyclists

From the early hours of Good Friday (18 April) until the evening of Easter Monday (21 April), the Pest lower embankment will reopen to pedestrians, cyclists, and scooter users. The car-free zone will be accessible between the IrΓ‘nyi Street exit near ErzsΓ©bet Bridge and Margaret Bridge, offering a safe and pleasant space for outdoor activities.

Disruptions on tram line 1 and metro line M1 during spring break

Due to maintenance works during the spring school holiday, the following service changes will apply from 22 to 27 April:

  • Tram line 1 will run on a shortened route between KelenfΓΆld Railway Station and SzentlΓ©lek Square. Replacement buses marked with the number 1 will operate between BΓ©csi Road/VΓΆrΓΆsvΓ‘ri Road and SzentlΓ©lek Square.
  • Metro line M1 (Millennium Underground) will also run on a shortened route between MexikΓ³i Road and Oktogon. Replacement buses will operate between DeΓ‘k Ferenc Square and Oktogon.
