Audi to move production of Q3 model to Hungary
Budapest, January 20 (MTI) – German carmaker Audi will move the production of its Q3 compact crossover vehicle from Spain to its plant in Gyor in north-western Hungary as part of a restructuring of its global production network, Audi Hungaria Motor told MTI on Wednesday.
Audi Hungaria’s managing director Peter Koessler said the decision was a testament to the Gyor plant’s competitiveness. The company did not reveal when production of the Q3 model would begin at the factory.
Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said Audi’s decision will further strengthen Hungary’s position as a leader in Europe’s automotive industry and that it demonstrates that Hungary is an attractive investment destination with a skilled workforce. The decision also shows Audi’s commitment to Hungary, he said. The minister said the government, Audi and Gyor will collaborate to establish a regional industrial and higher education centre in the city to train future engineers for Hungary’s automotive industry.
Audi produces TT Coupe models, TT Roadsters, Audi A3 Limousines and Audi A3 Cabriolets in Gyor.
Engine output at Audi’s plant in Hungary reached 2,022,520 in 2015, up by nearly 50,000 compared to 2014 while car output was up by around 25,000 at 160,206.
