Five places in Hungary with the most breathtaking views
With 10 beautiful national parks, 37 landscape protection areas, 162 nature conservation areas, 8 UNESCO World Heritage Sites and several outstanding national treasures, Hungary is a country of immense beauty. If you visit Hungary, definitely make time to explore the country’s spectacular lakes, thermal baths, vast wine regions and charming historic towns.
Besides these destinations, we have collected some of the most beautiful and most instagrammable places and lookout towers that offer an unparalleled view.
Prédikálószék (Pulpit) – Danube Bend, Visegrád Mountains
Since 2016, visitors can also admire the scenic view of the entire Danube Bend from the terraces of the 12-metre-high lookout tower.
Prédikálószék is also a popular hiking destination not only because of the fantastic panorama but also because two other frequented hiking destinations, the Rám Gorge and the Vadálló-kövek (can be roughly translated as ‘sentinel rocks’) are located nearby.
Szépkilátó – Balatongyörök
Szépkilátó is located on a hillside on the north-western shore of Lake Balaton. It is only a roadside resting place with a few benches on a grassy hillside. Despite that, it offers one of the most beautiful views in Balatongyörök and the whole region. It provides a panorama of Lake Balaton and the mountains of the Tapolca Basin, enriched by the castle of Szigliget.
Kékestető
Kékes, the highest mountain of Hungary, is at 1014 metres above sea level.
With its signature TV tower and a lookout terrace, it is an excellent place for both shorter walks and longer hiking tours.
You can admire the astonishing view from the Kékestető lookout tower − located at a height of 45 metres – or from the observation deck – located at a height of 42 metres.

Tar-kő (Tar-stone) − Bükk Mountains
Starting from the Olasz-kapu (Italian Gate), a 7-kilometer trail leads to Tar-kő, the highest natural lookout point in Bükk Mountains (950 m).
There is no need for a lookout tower here as this limestone cliff rises high above its surroundings offering a stunning view to the southern part of Bükk.
Tar-kő is the 12th highest peak in the country, but the lookout point is located a little lower at a grassy clearing.
Galyatető − Mátra
Located on the peak of Péter-hegyese, the Galya Lookout stands almost 1,000 metres above sea level and it offers a panoramic view of the whole region from the nearby Mátra and Börzsöny Hills up to the white gleaming peaks of the distant High Tatras.
The 30-metre-high lookout tower has won several awards, and it is the highest lookout tower in Hungary.
