5 unique cafés to try in Budapest

Divany.hu came across Siesta&Go, Spain’s first siesta bar, where you can rent a bed, take a nap, grab a coffee and continue your day. It takes the café experience to a whole new level. Fortunately, we don’t have travel to Madrid, to be part of similarly unique, sometimes even bizarre experiences. Here are 5 extraordinary cafés and pubs to visit in Budapest 🙂

Minigolf and beer

“Ütős is the first pub in the capital where you can play minigolf. And it is the first minigolf course where you can drink beer” advertises the place found in a cellar at Jászai Mari Square. A public toilet functioned in its place once, which doesn’t sound very enticing, but according to the reviews on their Facebook site, it is actually a great place: “It’s creative and the courses are not easy. The staff is friendly and kind. I would recommend it to everyone…” One and a half hours of mini golf costs 1,400 forints (EUR 4.6), after or during which you can enjoy fine beers.

Solarium and coffee

Are you looking for an even weirder combination? Then visit Sentiment Solarium & Café on Margaret Boulevard. The place is the love-child of a cool café-sandwich bar-bakery and a solarium. Although the concept sounds bizarre, guests love the place, which constantly receives five stars on Facebook. “Professional machines, delicious coffee, good service and a lovely atmosphere. Who needs more?”

Laundry and coffee

There’s also a laundry-café in Budapest called Wash Point, and it is found in Lónyai Street. This seems like a logical combination sale: at least there’s something to do until you wait for your clothes. Actually, you don’t even have to wait for too long, because the washing is done in 33 minutes, while the drying takes 35 minutes. The laundry-café is open 24/7 all year around.

Animals and coffee

The petting zoo-café is not a new unit in the capital city (it was opened in 2014), but it must be mentioned when talking about unique cafés. Zoo Café, found in the neighbourhood of Kálvin Square, welcomes guests with cats, rabbits, hamsters, hedgehogs, geckos, parrots, snakes, spiders, turtles, chinchillas – 65 animals all together – and a selection of coffees, cakes and sandwiches. Don’t worry, all desks are equipped with hand sanitizers 😉

Barbershop, bistro and men’s clothing

“Rehab Budapest is a 3 in 1 concept! It is an ideal hiding spot for men in today’s rushing world. It is a barbershop, bistro and shop in one” says the self-description of the place found on Museum Boulevard. It’s perfect if you fancy a “menu” consisting of a haircut, beard colouring, ham and eggs, chardonnay and a latte macchiato. Naturally, the functions are separated.
