Hungarian military buys new aircraft
Budapest (MTI) – The Hungarian Air Force has purchased new trainer, reconnaissance and courier airfract, the defence ministry told MTI on Friday.
The new planes will be supplied by Czech aircraft maker Zlin Aircraft, and will replace the military’s Soviet-made Yak-52 aircrafts. Plans are to have Zlin Aircraft deliver the two ZLIN Z-242L type trainer aircrafts and the two ZLIN Z-143LSi type reconnaissance and courier aircrafts by the end of March, the ministry said.
The daily Magyar Idők said on Friday that the new planes will cost 363 million forints (EUR 1.2m), noting that the ministry had announced the tender for new aircrafts last year. The paper also noted that the ministry had bought the Yak-52 fighters back in 1994, which will now have to be retired due to old age.
