‘Son of Saul’ director László Nemes wins London Film Critics’ Circle Award for Director of the Year
The winners of the 37th London Film Critics’ Circle Awards were announced on Sunday evening in the May Fair Hotel in London, 24.hu reports. 140 members of the London Film Critics’ Circle voted to decide the winners of the prestigious awards.
László Nemes, director of the Oscar and Golden Globe-winning Hungarian film Son of Saul, won the award for Director of the Year. The other nominees of the category were Maren Ade (Toni Erdmann), Damien Chazelle (La La Land), Barry Jenkins (Moonlight) and Kenneth Lonergan (Manchester by the Sea).
Son of Saul was also nominated for Foreign Language Film of the Year, which was won by the German comedy Toni Erdmann.

According to origo.hu, Son of Saul also received the Best Foreign Film Award at the Guldbagge Awards in Stockholm, Sweden. This is the first time that a Hungarian film won at the Swedish film award ceremony. Moreover, the film is nominated for a BAFTA Award, the winners of which will be announced on February 12.
