According to Szeretlekmagyarország.hu, based on a list of Traveller magazine, the Chain Bridge in Budapest is the fourth most beautiful bridge in the world. As cultura.hu writes, the economic and cultural development of Pest (Buda and Pest united in 1873) made connecting the two sides of the Danube unavoidable.
The bridge was being constructed between 1839 and 1849. This was the hugest architectural masterpiece in the era, lobo.hu wrote. The major supporter of the construction of the bridge was István Széchenyi, hence its official name, Széchenyi Chain Bridge. Széchenyi knew that the construction was going to meet huge difficulties, therefore, he founded an association for those who wished to support the construction ideologically as well as politically.
