Wizz Air to open new flight route from Hungary to Kazahstan
Budapest, April 3 (MTI) – Hungarian low-fare airline Wizz Air will launch a direct flight between Budapest and Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, CEO József Váradi said on Monday.
The company will at first operate the flight twice a week, Váradi told a press conference, adding that the number of flights per week could be increased later depending on demand.
The first flight will be launched on June 8.
Varadi also said that there would be 4.8 million seats on Budapest flights this year. Last year’s passenger numbers on Wizz Air’s Budapest flights climbed by 23 percent to 3.7 million, he added.
Wizz Air is making a total of ten more routes accessible to Budapest passengers this year.
Economy Minister Mihály Varga told the same press conference that Hungary had established diplomatic relations with Kazakhstan in 1991 when it became one of the first countries to recognise Kazakhstan’s independence. The ties established then are constantly getting stronger and the direct flight between the two countries’ capitals will also serve to boost bilateral realtions, the minister added.
Nurbakh Rustemov, Kazakhstan’s ambassador to Hungary, said the direct flight connection between the two countries could boost bilateral economic, tourism and trade relations.
