Socialists to choose new directions in December
Budapest (MTI) – The Socialist Party will make decisions concerning changes to the party and new directions for left-wing politics at a national conference on December 13, the head of the Socialist board told a press conference on Saturday.
Laszlo Botka said that though his party had lost all three elections this year, the Socialists were to “build a left-wing alternative to Orban’s system”. He said that the party would lay the foundations for a new Socialist Party in the next two months.
Botka also said that he had resigned from his seat in parliament after he had been re-elected as mayor of southern Hungary’s Szeged. His mandate will go to Zoltan Gogos under the board’s decision, he added.
