Violinist Péter Komlós dies at 81

Budapest, May 2 (MTI) – Twice Kossuth award-winning violinist Péter Komlós died at age 81 in the early hours of Tuesday, the family told MTI.

Komlós was born in Budapest and studied at the Academy of Music between 1950 and 1956. He founded the Komlós String Quartet in 1957 which was renamed to Bartók String Quartet in 1963.

He was concert master at the Budapest Opera House between 1960 and 1989 and a Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music associate professor from 1982.

He was awarded the Liszt Ferenc Prize in 1964 and the Kossuth Prize in 1970. Later on, in 1997, he won another Kossuth Prize shared with the other members of the Bartók String Quartet.
