Airbus Helicopters Plans to Sell 40 Craft in Hungary by 2024
Budapest, November 11 (MTI) – Europe’s Airbus Helicopters plans to sell 40 civilian and military craft to Hungary over the next 10 years, the company’s deputy president told MTI.
Thomas Hein said helicopters will have an enhanced role in the civil aviation industry, as well as in performing airborne tasks in the industrial and the farming sectors, and in supporting health-care services, he said, noting that EC135s are already deployed by Hungary’s air ambulance services.
Old fleets also need to be replaced, and this applies, too, to the military sector, in particular in central and eastern Europe.
Hein said they had been keeping tabs on the Hungarian armed forces’ modernisation plans of their helicopter fleet over the past year and a half.
Hungary has a very specialised air force, Hein said, adding that it would be most expedient to replace its helicopter fleet with multifunctional types.
Airbus Helicopters, the main competitor to US manufacturers, could potentially supply such types, its AS532A1-s and EC645 T2-s, to fully serve the Hungarian armed forces’ fleet needs, he said.
